Back in my Asp, and suddenly the game clicks again

There are different ships for different puposes and everbody has a different taste and opinion on things - how would have thought that :D

For me my fav ship of all time, and the one I have spent most in is my trusty Imperial Clipper.

Don't know why exactly, but it just feels right to run around in.

If i need muscle, I'll switch it for its big brother, the Cutter. That thing has all the beauty of the Clipper but more uumph. Horrible at flying any distance though.

My ASP commands the second most time spent in. When going out into the deep deep, the ASP is the only ship of choice for me. I didn't get on exploring with the Anaconda, I quite like diving down into planets and the old conda is a liability in higher G nosiness :)

People love the conda for exploration, but the ASPx is my baby.

According to Inara, the Asp is far and away the most widely owned ship. About 50% more owned than the next most popular..... yep, you guessed it, the Python.

I much prefer the Asp. With grade 4 engineered thrusters it hits 500+ boost and turns on a dime and still has enough power for everything else.

IMO The Python requires too much pip tweakage, has a poorer range and poorer view... nice cargo hold, though.

Never spend long outside of my Asp. It feels like home.

Recently picked up a Fer-De_Lance for some combat jinks and I do like it. May give the Python another go with some engineered thrusters and fsd. Tried it in a Beta a while back and did't gel with it. I have a preference for multi roll ships that can land at most places.

I've gone through a number of ships, but ended back at the Asp, it's built for defense rather than offense, and with the upgraded thrusters it can outrun most things, I left some space for 64T cargo or a passenger module, it has an FSD of 36ly when laden, but what really got me back to it was the alien ruins, I was using my Conda which is outfitted for exploration, but try finding a large pad with repair service, so my Asp came into it's own again, great little explorer, her name is Amelia.

In short, the game mechanics all start to make sense again. It makes me wonder if the Asp is the sweet spot for the game balance in ED.

There are many sweet spots for me.

I love flying smaller ships like the Viper but also enjoy the big Anaconda and the huge Cutter and everything in between.

One of the many things Fdev excels in is giving all ships their own feel and character.
I love the small responsive ships, but I also enjoy approaching a station in my lumbering Cutter and docking it manually with great precision.

AspX is brilliant: Formed the cornerstone of my original credit making doing rares runs long ago. Every time I sold it (for various reasons) I always had to buy another one. Hence why current one is called "Another Aspect". I see exactly where OP is coming from and as soon as I get back to the bubble, I will be leaping back into it for my next exploration run (I'm in my exploraConda currently)

Last July I sold all my ships save 1. I wanted to engineer all that I could for my one ship. The Vulture. Last week I wanted to see what these passenger missions were about, so I parked it. Bought an Asp and did all the things you do... A rate, RNGeneer... have to say... I like these missions with one exception: The amount of money you make goes directly towards your Explorer rank. I did 2 3 million dollar flights... 6 miliion total... raised my rank 7% in Ranger. I can see where this exploit can be used to get to Elite.

I still say the very best ship in this game is....

WHICHEVER DANG SHIP YOU LIKE THE MOST!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

A big thumbs up for playing it your way! I love the Python, but the Asp is such a fantastic ship as well.

I even like the way it sounds.

By all factors that mean anything to me, the AspX has to be the "greatest ship" in the game.
Oddly I didn't like her when I first got into ED yet I would always buy one, sell it for another ship, then end up buying one again because I needed it.

Now that I am older and wiser I just keep it. Damn thing can do everything. Sure some ships are better at this or that but the AspX can do it all...and well. As time has passed it's sheer utility and usefulness has made it one of my favorites. Never thought I would say that 18 months ago!

While the Asp is certainly a very useful and good ship, the game is not balanced for the Asp. The Asp simply is the ship for you. Be happy to have found the right ship for you.

I guess using the ship someone likes makes playing the game good and balanced with any ship.

I have been playing since the beta, and have every ship in the game that i want including the big 3 and all fully engineered and have flown every ship at some point.

The ship i most enjoy and find myself in more than i need to be at the moment is my courier, absolutely love it. It boosts to 802ms, has reasonable shielding still and jumps 30+lys, I use it for collecting mats surface side mostly.

Its also so much fun flying it in Shinrata, and having player FDL's interdict me and leaving them for dust. I like to see how persistent they are, most only try a couple of times. One player tried about 8 times, not really sure who was griefing who in the end, but i know i was laughing!

I just love its speed, have got a half built imp eagle, but although it will be faster completely stripped down, i won't be able to use it like the courier, it will be just for speed runs.

Have turned my asp in to a passenger ship, its very good at that, have also been enjoying using it again.

The AspX is the sweet spot for precisely one thing - exploration in a B-17. It is riseable at everything else. It can trade, but not as well as a Python. It can fight, as long as what you are fighting wishes to concede. It handles like a big ship that isn't.

OP said combat was survivable, not preferable to being in a python.

My ASP is a great ship, but so are my cobra, python, anaconda, vulture, FAS, courier and clipper. All have their own roles and all get called upon at different times depending on what I'm up to. Not demeaning other ships, just agree with OP that ASP is a great one.

Each to their own and all that....

I do exactly what you do. I have 16 ships and I fly them all, if fact I was in an Asp when I posted and still am because I'm on my way back to the bubble from Hawking's Gap. Fair point though, he did say survivable. I can survive combat in both of my Asps too but since neither of them have any weapons fitted I do so by the magic of the boost key. :D

The Asp was the ship I spent most of my time in around the bubble right up to the point I got a Python. They Python is such a fantastic all-rounder though that no matter what I want to do (other than exploration for which I have two dedicated ships) I have to actively think of reasons to fly something else.

I'm doing the horrid Liz Ryder/Hera Tani/Broo Targuin engineer unlock chain and am using my engineered Asp X. The high jump range, versatility, and cargo capacity makes it a very useful engineer grind ship.

I'm spending most of my time in my Asps at the moment too.

40ly, 60ly if boosted at a White Dwarf, pretty irresistible.

With 4 class 1 fixed missiiles, it's great for base assaults, 64 cargo space, and a luxury passenger cabin it does make a sweet spot.

You.... You sold, A Python?!?
Blasphemy!

I feel almost the exact opposite to you. Lol

I used to have an Asp, it was good for the odd long range smuggling run, but terrible at anything else. I actually hated it enough to stop using it for smuggling.
I love how my Python handles, pre-engineers, I could still fling that thing through the letterbox at full speed.
Now with dirty drives and FSD range 5, it just outshines nearly every other ship.
Bit shorter range than the Asp, but it handles better, it's faster, can carry more, and do some heavy PvE combat.
And it's not hideous to look at. :p

I sold my Asp long ago, and never looked back. :D
I just have two separate Pythons instead.

This is debatable; the Python looks like a long, green Dorito. Looks terrible to me.

My favorite ship is the Asp Ex. The cockpit view is great and I've engineered a jump range of 56 lyrs. That allows me to fly to places most players can't reach. I'm currently in M67, with the Distant Stars expedition.

I also have a Python, but I hardly ever fly it.

Oh dear.
