Well of course I was indulging in gross over-simplification for effect.

BTW - As I understand it the console versions have all the controls bound by default and you get these on-screen reminders of controls as well. PC user here so I am just saying what I have seen on streams etc.

Oh, I just love how Elite "on screen" help is telling that I need to press "button 7", without reference to what device said button is on....and I am using 3 devices that all have button 1-26, and two also have button 27-32...


I also know how the nice screen reminder you talk about, as this appears to be default when using a controller. Even on PC. Flying with controller is really confusing, as they swap which hand do what compared to regular HOTAS setup. Left thumb is doing what a HOTAS player uses it right hand for.... Pitch and roll.


So lets all agree that different controller options have their pros and cons.

The FSS is blinking horrible, complex and a waste of time.

Just give me back the old Discovery scanner functionality, tell me where planets etc. are and what they look like then let me choose to fly to the planets to scan them in more detail.

I only need to know where the planets are.

If you want to use the FSS because that is quicker, then fine, but make it optional.
You'll still have to fly there to map surface .. so the FSS makes no sense anyway.

Old way: Arrive in star system, honk while refueling. Discover 24 planets/moons. The local ones are all rocks. The other 15 are surrounding a star 500,000 LS away. Decide to just take the cheap "consolation prize for honking" and go on to the next star rather than spend 45 to 60 minutes flying from one planet/moon to the next, stare at each for a time then move on.

New way: Honk, discover 24 planets/moons, move away from arrival star for about 30 seconds, use FSS, scan EVERYTHING in the system in 5-7 minutes, get credit for scanning entire system, move on to the next star.

Makes exploring a breeze, as far as I'm concerned. Means I can still explore AND eventually get to my target destination in my actual life-time.

I say keep it.

Its easy to pile on an take the micky out of OP. The FSS sucks, its ruined the fun for many people. While it probably doesnt need to be banned there is no reason to deny the player an alternative. All you people posting "no" and variations of, why do you take such delight in dumping on somebody who just wants the choice? Sinse this is the suggestions forum i have to assume its for FDs benefit. Very sad.

Well its just that the "no faction" doesnt really have any position other than wanting to stop somebody else having what they want. More than that its what they bought and paid for and maybe became accustomed to using for years only to have it suddenly stolen from them. Even players in deep space logged in to the equivalent of space burglary and nobody really even seems to know why. Posts that do nothing but try to rub it in are not nice or helpful and as Captain Thea Kreutzer said, this is not a voting booth its a suggestions forum. There shouldnt really be any counter posts in here.

I certainly agree that one shouldn't try to rub it in or be nasty. I know it's not a democracy, perhaps my wording was a poor choice. However, if there are people saying "hey fdev, please change x to y" then I see no reason to not make my voice heard and say "no, keep it the way it is. "

Yea just poor wording. There always people arguing over what they like and dislike thats the point of forums. but it usually has no effect at the end of the day its the dev teams decision.

Exactly! But if video games are going to be malleable, then I'd rather let the devs know which suggestions I agree or disagree with, especially if they give us a forum specificity for suggestions.

But what are you suggesting? That FD ignores somebody elses request even when it would have no effect on you? Why would you do that? Or anybody else who has done so? It appears like its about shouting somebody elses idea down more then anything else. Honestly, if the old ADS was back in tomorrow would you even notice? You would have to go to a station to fit the thing so unless you did that it would have no effect on you.. literally zero. Find it in yourself to support people rather than being anti is all im saying

The new FSS makes it alot more easier for explorers the only downgrade is not being able to see the system on your map before scanning.

The choice would be yours. Like i said.... if you didnt choose to fit that module it wouldnt make any difference would it? Would somebody else fitting that module effect you in any way? Especially as its been established by multiple posts from many different people that the FSS is better.

Edit: Just from my point of view, the removal of the ADS has ruined my fun and killed the game for me. It is unlikely in the extreme that i will ever log in again unless the old ADS is returned and even if i did exploration for me is now dead. Its just so unbeleivably unfair for this to have happened.
