In my playthrough today I noticed that the barrier height specified in the zoopedia for the animals is excessively high, especially the big cats in particular. They jump out at the default 2m tall height, but about 3.15 feet is perfectly fine for housing one (way lower than 10m or whatever it is). As long as there isn't a climbable surface near the barrier (an overhanging tree, rocks, platforms, etc.), they won't have any escape points.
Just thought I'd mention this so more people know you don't need literal skyscrapers to keep your animals in. This paired with the workaround of using construction fences at viewing areas, and I've been able to make more open enclosures so the zoo doesn't feel so claustrophobic
