Barrier height requirements too high on some animals

In my playthrough today I noticed that the barrier height specified in the zoopedia for the animals is excessively high, especially the big cats in particular. They jump out at the default 2m tall height, but about 3.15 feet is perfectly fine for housing one (way lower than 10m or whatever it is). As long as there isn't a climbable surface near the barrier (an overhanging tree, rocks, platforms, etc.), they won't have any escape points.

Just thought I'd mention this so more people know you don't need literal skyscrapers to keep your animals in. This paired with the workaround of using construction fences at viewing areas, and I've been able to make more open enclosures so the zoo doesn't feel so claustrophobic

It is 3m not 10m. And 2m is not enough. Also the calculation does not take trees and rocks into consideration. Therefore I suppose it is an average value. I don‘t consider it a particularly good solution.

Of course 2m isn't enough, I said that big cats jump out at that height lol. I just played today and I'm pretty sure the zoopedia recommended some big cats to have barriers taller than 3m.

If you have climbable surfaces near your barriers the animals will use that to escape, which is why I mentioned it. The recommended height in the zoopedia doesn't change depending on what's currently in your enclosure. The barrier specifications in the zoopedia implies "use this or else they'll escape", which turns out to not be true

The height requirement is only 4m on all big cats, which IMO is pretty reasonable.

They really use obstacles? I have build large climbable trees on top of the fences and my jaguars don‘t use it.
On top as in literally, or on top as in next to? If the tree is actually off the ground and on top of the fence then they won't use it, since they can't reach it.

But animals really do use things to escape, even my flamingos will hop right over the fence if there's a hill nearby. I built a climbing platform for my red pandas and peafowls that runs directly alongside the barrier (so guests can see them really close), but it requires a construction fence at the edge to prevent them from just jumping over and escaping. So yeah, be careful of climbable objects near the barriers. The in-game heatmaps will tell you if there's any escape points in your enclosure, although it is possible to adjust climbable structures/objects in a way that doesn't let them escape (like I mentioned above)
