I think we discussed this with Dav once on the show. He implied that the reason we haven't seen the Mining Rigs from Frontier or FFE is there a limitation to what can be stored server side. If you drop a Mining Rig, then everyone has to see it whenever if they're in open, pvt or solo and that can be a problem.

Yeah exactly, 'Online' comes with a price and the richness of potential features is limited due to the online nature of the game :(
I know in NMS they had to really push the 'clever code' to the limit as they expanded the multiplayer features and it also introduced lots of odd-ball bugs for those in MP.

MMO and online games work great when they are very simply 'shooters' or PvP combat arena's, or at a push 'lite' crpg's, but with any kind of more complex simulation you are just going to be throttled by what the game can achieve. For me it is the Achilles heel of ED.

absolutely right... the game is so big mining camps will stay in 99% hidden and the last 1% is the risk which makes the game interesting

the so called 1% risk is always acceptable, but only when the bad things happen to everyone else
when it happens to you, it's always a tragedy

I mean have u seen CG systems with carriers. There are thousands of carriers currently running. Im sure a ground laser or 2 in even 2,000+ player settlements wouldn't break the server if thousands of 2 mile long capital ships with npcs and players docking constantly are working.

Server load is an issue.
Especially for a game with no subscriptions.

And btw, there are not thousands of carriers.
There are almost 31000 carriers. And raising

31,000 which are listed in external tools/sites/communities.
By the way, if everyone / or most paid the 5 billion credits, this would be 155.000.000.000.000 worth in credits. (in words: 155 Trillion Credits)... 50 Trillion more, than the world wide share value by end of 2020.

31,000 carriers seems like it qualifies as "thousands" to me.

To me thousands qualifies for 3-9 thousands.
at 30k+ we're talking about tens of thousands

but, semantics 🤷‍♂️

Point is, i do think they're reluctant to increase the server load with more permanent assets.
So ground bases? Mining rigs? Mmmm, i dont think so.

Maybe after they turn off the servers and gift us the game as a pure single player game.
