Bases and a slip of the trigger finger

So I was scanning a med security base for data last night. All was going well and had got the data points within the time frames was fine. On the way out of the base I slipped and hit the primary fire on the mouse and fired 1 shot into the dirt, didn't hit any of the base. Honestly you would think I had blown up the entire base. Every single turret and missile point opened up on me. 3 ships in orbit started, a python and 2 Cobras. Missile lasers everything dumping down on my little srv.

So I tried to run. Flicked the pips up and left and ran. Then after 10 mins of crazy driving i made the mistake of recalling the ship. Managed to get in it all under fire. Barely lifted off the ground when shields hit and boom I was dust.

So my question. Can you escape from anything like this? can you stop them trying to kill you? Or is it anything seen as aggression and it's instant retaliation? What is the most annoying is the reward cargo gone as we can't store anything effectively.

A good point. A 'communicate my apologies' button would be useful. Which gets you off up to a 1000cr fine within 1 minute of getting it. And cargo storage. Please.

Lol sorry for your loss.

Base defences, and particularly ships, can be a nightmare for the little old SRV.

Recalling your ship is usually the best course of action, but your ship needs to be able to withstand a certain amount of beating. I always leave mine (if going anywhere near something hostile) with 4 pips to Sys. I also won't dismiss my ship if I can help it, I just park it where the base defences can't shoot it, like over a ridge or in a crater.

Otherwise, just let the ships kill your SRV. It's far cheaper than a ship rebuy.

This is why I take pips out of weapons and dump the weapons capacitor before running base scans. It persists through loading the SRV back into your ship, so you only need to do it once.

It would be nice if disabling the guns in the modules screen didn't also disable the data link scanner.

Or you could just take the plasma repeaters off of the firegroups. :p

That's called a "misfire" here. A chargeable offense if in the armed services.

Maybe you should look at the options menus and look for the "Deploy Hardpoints Automatically" one (sorry, writing this from memory). I never have it on at all. It's all too easy to accidentally press a firing button and then the hardpoints deploy and fire off an actual shot :) But to be honest I never tried to see if it's the same in an SRV. The X52 has a "trigger guard" thing. I normally fly/drive with finger outside the trigger guard, just like how they taught us in the services.

"10 minutes of crazy driving" set drive assist full speed then logging out takes 15 seconds, situation beaten.
