Bay launched decoys

afaik, heat sinks don't work on npcs.

Where did you get that idea from? Heatsinks (or cycling SR) cause NPC's to lose lock. The sensor disruption can be used to prevent missile launches and scans. The advantage of using a heatsink (over cycling SR) is that you can remain shields up.

Lol. Last couple of times I started mining before they scanned my - they then demanded 1T of painite - which I gave them - and went off happy. Far easier than getting into a battle :)

No, never give them anything, that just encourages them, all pirates must die!!!!

I usually give them autocannon ammunition with my high speed delivery system.

Cmdr Exigeous posted this on youtube. It's at number 10. Perhaps I misunderstood.

Number 10 is factually incorrect, didn't bother to watch the rest.

Perhaps he means that NPC's will still visually track you even without a signature to resolve, a human can do the exact same thing. The only difference, you can hide behind a roid for example, the NPC can still see you, whilst a human obviously can't.

My initial comment is about an NPC's ability to lock onto you and perform a scan or fire seeker missiles. They cant maintain a lock if you cycle SR, or time a heatsink launch correctly. It effectively broke smuggling and made it too easy, next time an authority ship scans you, cycle SR or drop a heatsink, watch what happens.. Easy mode

We already have chaff for gimballed/turreted weapons.

We already have point defence for missles/topedos

We already have ECM for missles/torpedos

We already have heatsinks, which do all of the above

This is also about my line of thought. What we'd really need is to get these to a level where people wonder if they'd rather pick one or more of them, instead of yet another fully engineered shield booster. And the question should already matter before the sixth or seventh shield booster.

Unfortunately, considering how powerful shield boosters are and how dominant they even were -before- engineers came around, the altenatives would have to be buffed to godlike levels to achieve that goal. As apparently FD never dares to implement even the most insignificant nerf, let alone one which would actually matter.

I stand corrected.
