Engineers Beam efficient/thermal vent experience.

So after reading a few posts I took the Vette back home and traded my MC's in for 3 Beam Lasers efficient with thermal venting G5 added on. The other hardpoints are pulse lasers. I almost immediately get thermal overload now. For you commanders that use the Beams with Thermal vent mod....what other weapons of choice do you use? Would it help to change the pulses to efficient also? The pulses are mix of long range and focused.

My fighting ships have efficient vent beams some pulse and the rest multicannon.
I can fire beams all day with the cutter. Probably with the anaconda, too but targets don't last long enough to try that.

I think you get to keep the heat buildup if you miss with the vent beams. I have the beams for shield draining. So I only have 2.

The most important thing to do, is to stop firing the beam lasers if you're missing your target a lot — which is usually caused by range to target and wobble of gimbals/turrets.

Remember that thermal vent heat buildup is increased when missing, so you really need to use any gimballed or turreted thermal vent beams as short-range weapons. Maybe medium range if the target is a large ship.

Anyone with a good Beam Lasers on the 2 big hardpoints load out that you care to share?

Yeah I use one and 3 large laser weapons (simular power draw)

My current load out for my Conda is;

-1 Huge Beam with grade 5 efficient(maximum benefit) with thermal vent
-2x large beam laser grade 3 efficient with thermal shock
-1 pulse laser large with grade 4 efficient w/ scatter spec
-2x pack hound w/ grade 5 expanded capacity w/ Thermal cascade
-1 Long range Beam laser grade 3 turret w/ thermal shock
-1 overcharged multi cannon turret w/ corrosive munitions

A simular combo for your vette I would recommend...I can fire all my beam weapons for around 20-30 seconds before depleting Distributor ;)

Vette works very very well with efficient beams and thermal conduit (not vent).
You simply use a shield cell to overheat and up the damage.

Isn't that dangerous?! If you use pack hounds they alone will push you over...and create quite a show at the same time ;)

Well, I must say they work very well at close range. Even though I can't continually fire they wipe out ships pretty darn fast. Inside 1 KM the kill time is cut in half....

In my experience beams are only useful when they have G5 efficiency mods that put the distributor draw outside the blue, and your powerplant and distributor can handle the load. MCs are by far the best for DPE but they are not hitscan, whereas a beam can get similar DPS but poor DPE and that heat buildup. Thermal vent causes the weapon to produce 25% more heat as a consequence as well, so thats negating a fair amount of your efficiency. If you really want to run beams be prepared to do a lot of rolling for mods to get the best outcome, or run some burst lasers. As well use Coriolis.edcd.io for your builds, it gives you all the data you need to see and you can easily identify shortcomings like heat generation.

I have 3 Beams on my Anaconda that are G5 Efficient (others are modded MCs) and it's rare that I overheat or get self inflicted thermal damage.

Thing is, stop firing your beams when the target is out of it's firing arc or range. If you have turreted or gimballed weapons, firing them on targets that are past 2Km make them ineffective and tend to miss because of jitter. So control your fire rate :)

Another factor that may indirectly affect your heat or thermal levels is your other modules, if they also generate lots of heat then it can add to your overall heat levels. Getting A-rated modules is very expensive but these A-rated modules are the most efficient on heat handling. E, D, C rated modules are bad with heat efficiency. B-rated modules are so-so but they are your alternative to the expensive A-rated ones (although B-rated are the heaviest).

Also, get Clean Drives instead of Dirty Drives or if your power requirement isn't very high, get a Low Emissions mod on your power plant :)

So, I went back and now I have 2 large beams with thermal vent G5....1 burst G5 efficient.....2 MC's with over charged G5.....and 2 pulse long range......I must say under 1.5KM this thing melts ships......my distributor still drains but it takes about 20 - 30 seconds of continuous firing....I think I finally found my combat ship of choice :)
