Engineers Beam laser regeneration sequence experimental effect

How does the regeneration sequence experimental effect work when it comes to multiple laser modules i.e does it need to be added to each laser you have in a fire group for it to work successfully on a wing?

im pretty sure that if you only have 2 beams with Regen and 2 beams with out in ONE fire group you would Damage your Wing mate and heal him..

so you would need to create a *healing* fire group for the laser with Regen on it!.

Thanks. I thought that might be the case although I was hoping for just the one beam to be effective. I have upgraded both to have this experimental effect but I am not happy with the damage output (despite the roll saying that there would be an increase) so may end up going back to basics. I don't fancy using up all my favours in one go.

yeah depends on your play style.

My friend has a Anaconda with them regen beams on them and i use a Corvette . hes more of a support ship!
so unless you play allot with friends I would not recommend the REGEN beams unless you have 2 ships. one for supporting healing and the other for fighting when you are alone.

If you are looking for more DPS i would personally suggest PULSE LASERS with Phasing Sequence and depending again on the balance of your ship I would go with ether OVERCHARGE or Efficiency

IF you really like the Beam lasers you can get a combination of: Thermal Conduit and/or Thermal Vent

Good luck CMDR!

Please tell me you only get experimental effects with a lot of rolls.
The way you word this, it seems you can buy them. I have only ever got 2 experimental effects. (By chance)

You can "buy" them. For example I got my Regeneration Sequence completely randomly with the little spinning-dial falling on the blue dot, and then randomly selecting Regen from the available effects. I was surprised to say the least, and applied it.

The second way is by choice.
When the bonus stats have finished rolling, and then the spinning thing determines you failed to get an experimental effect, you can then press up, and go to a little button called "ADJUST".
Click that, then you get a screen where you can pick an effect, at the cost of 2 levels of favour with that specific engineer. Say I pick Thermal Vent experimental effect, it asks for confirmation, then goes back to the upgrade generation screen, and you apply as normal.

Then level up that engineer again.

I really wish frontier would put the hidden negatives of each special effect in their descriptions. I got a natural regen beam which I accepted a while ago, if I had known at the time it would reduce damage by 10% I would have removed the effect (since you can remove effects for free) as I don't really fly in a wing often at all. :(

Thanks for all the replies.

I generally play the game in solo mode, but there has been talk of winging up with friends one night and I thought that I could assist with earning them some credits in a resource extraction site. They have smaller ships so I thought that having the regeneration beams would be of help as their shields are probably going to suffer quite quickly.

You can always fit normal weapons and just keep some regen beams in storage for when you wing up.

This is a good idea which I did not think of. It would be a shame to get rid of the two regeneration beams. I have replenished my cadmium stock so if I find some more proto heat radiators I will make another trip to Broo Tarquin. I was quite happy with my grade 5 efficient beams prior to trying to tweak them.

I may attempt another laser type for my combat focused Fer-de-Lance which I have yet to develop.

I didn't realise that the effects can be removed separately, I thought that there was only the option to remove the modification and therefore everything.

Well yeah you can but not once you've accepted the modification, once accepted, the effect and mod are linked, so removal is all or nothing. You have to do it during engineering, the same as picking an effect, (changing one really) since you already have one, you can pick the same one or no-effect and it doesn't cost you as a favour, while the cost for actually changing to a different one is half that of adding one (i.e. 1 instead of 2 levels).
