Beams not working

I have class 3 turret beams on my Krait, but they regularly fail to start shooting when I first engage a target. Pips are at three energy is full and I'm undamaged, but they simply won't fire. I had to change from fire at will to forward fire just to get something working. What the hell is going on? Is anyone else seeing this?

I also have a fixed class 3 plasma and 2x class 2 fixed rails. Or at least, I did until I've just swapped them out for a different load out.

Are they in the currently selected Fire Group?
Are they set to something other than "Fire straight ahead"?
Are the targets within the turrets' range?

Has the target been tagged as hostile?
Either from hitting it with a non-turret weapon, or because the target has engaged you.
This is the right question. Fire at will turrets don't shoot unless a target is hostile. I set one gimballed weapon to the same trigger as my turrets usually, so I can "ping" the target to turn it hostile, and the turrets will then track and fire.

For more turret control, I generally go for the target only setting though. I don't want my turrets shooting at just any hostile target.

Yes. I'm either in a conflict zone and I've selected my 'side' or I'm engaging a pirate target. The hitting with a non-turret weapon used to work, but not anymore: since Sep update patch 2, I think.
Hmm, does sound like a bug then. :(

The only other thing it might be, is that beam turrets seem to be the slowest to swing around and get on target, so if you are up against nimble opponents, it can seem like they are not doing anything. On my turreted Krait Mk2 I try to "help" the turrets by keeping the enemy roughly in front of me and turning with them so the turrets don't have to do any extreme targeting corrections (since I'm using beam turrets too and they are slow to get on target).

You could try some tricks like replacing the turrets in outfitting and then putting them back, or swapping them (if they are the same size) around to see if that shakes something loose. I haven't noticed any turret issues on my Krait, but it might be a setup-specific thing for you and changing stuff up might force the system to "recalibrate" whatever the error is.

Oh, i've had this problem on my Krait although it was with the medium hardpoints. Had a ticket open with FD.

Found a solution though which was to disable them in power settings and then reenable. Requipping them in outfitting also fixed it.

Problem is, it came back and had to keep remembering to do it.

I stopped using turrets on the Krait for this reason.

Thanks. I'll try fiddling. Like i said above i did "fix" it by changing the turret mode to forward fire.

I'll see if your suggestions make any difference.

What is the point of using turrets on a Krait BTW?
They start firing at your target before they are in your sights.

I use dual burst turrets on my Mamba. Worked perfectly fine yesterday. I use them with Target Only mode.

I simply target the thing I want to shoot, use the fire button my turrets are set to and they begin firing on the target.

Doesn’t matter if the target is hostile or not. Pressing fire for turrets in Target Only mode WILL make them shoot at your target.

Also played my Krait Mk2 the day before using 3 x Turreted Beams in Target Only and worked just the same way as my Mambas bursts.

One thing to note when using turrets of any kind is that their tracking speed is not very high so pulling hard turns and maneuvers will push or pull your turrets crosshairs off a target.

To maintain sustained turret fire you need to pay attention to the turret crosshairs and ensure they are over the target (or the lead indicator for kinetics) which means you sometimes have to ease back on the stick and make smoother turns.
