Powerplay Becoming a power

I know a minor faction has become a power before so I'm wondering is it possible for any other minor factions to become a power? Say a minor faction became more powerful than the powers themselves then would that minor faction then become a power seeing as they are more powerful? I know there was a competition but it seems a bit stupid that a minor faction could become more powerful than a power and then not be allowed to become a power when it has been done before.

Fair enough Yuri Grom is a bit useless but surely if an actual good faction or player group became a power then they could make a difference and make powerplay a bit more interesting.

The only thing I can suggest is to contact Will, Ed or Paul and register interest in another Rise to Power event.

Say a minor faction became more powerful than the powers themselves [...]

That's a fairly big ask. The smallest power (Archon Delaine) is currently controlling and exploiting 396 systems, whereas the currently largest faction is in 128 systems. Factions can expand into about 1 new system per week, so to catch up with Delaine, that faction would need to expand another 268 times, which would take another 5 years and change.

Meh, just play the BGS and build up a faction from there. No need to get involved in PP which is more about PVP than any thing else, which is fine, but nowhere near the late game Risk-sim that Sandro probably had in mind. If you want to PP, then wait for the revamp. If you want to "rise to power" then play the BGS.

Hmm ... looks like I massively exaggerated the size of factions. The 128 number was just number of assets controlled, not number of systems they're in.

Seems 54 systems is currently the largest system presence, which ups the time required by about a year and a half.

Cool. The Canonn are on the case. Paging the new Power leader, Dr. Arcanonn....

Ehh ... unless PowerPlay gets some love and attention, I'd recommend anyone wanting to start a power to actually join one and try to become part of the leadership. Once there they'll realize that it's a bad idea.

I know a minor faction has become a power before

Others have talked about this, but none of them have really pointed out that this isn't really what happened. The EG Players, a large and active player group with a faction based out of Euryale (EG Union), won the Rise to Power campaign. This let them create the lore for Yuri Grom, the leader of the EG Union. Except that Grom's Power HQ is in Clayakarma, 92Ly away.

So the minor faction did not 'become a Power'. The leaders of the player group were able to 'create a Power'.

These are vastly different things and highlights how much of a headache it would be if FDev did it again.

There was a proposal about allowing player factions to become 'freedom fighters' within a Power's structure, so they could participate in PowerPlay without having to choose an opposing Power to attack an encroaching Power.

Most Powers started with around 8 Control Systems, which is usually around 100-140 Control and Exploited Systems. Grom started with fewer, but better Control Systems: maybe 60-80 systems total?

There's an argument that can be made that a faction with that many systems under its thrall is in fact a Power, whether or not it is recognized as such.
