Before i report a player. tell me if this is possible or cheating

160,000 class A shield?
What number A was it?

I am thinking maybe its not the right shield size for that cobra, maybe.

I had the exact same thought. The Class A in the right size (4 I think) is 1.6m credits. So perhaps OP was using a really small and weak shield.

Here you go. You got a high quality (A rated) but very small ( class 2) shield generator whilst a cobra needs a very much bigger class 4 generator

The smallest the Cobra can use is a size 3... I've been using an A3 without a problem. But it's worth three times what the OP paid for his shield.

Hi everybody,

I had a similar experience just a couple of minutes ago with some npc.
I was hunting at a nav point in my trusted cobra when i scanned a wanted adder without shields. I engaged and after some hits on both sides we came to a jousting position. My shields were almost maxed but no pip to sys.
When the adder came by SOMETHING hit me and my shields were gone! I had 48% hull left and boosted away as fast as my thrusters allowed.

This made me curious what kind of weapon this criminal might have equipped, so i turned and tried to sneak up on him and scan his subsystems! Unfortunately a security eagle crossed my path at full speed and finished my cobra before i was back in scanner range *facepalm*

My Cobra has C4 Shields and military grade composite, so I'm quite surprised how fast this encounter turned my cobra into spacejunk...

If someone has an explanation to what happened there, i would appreciate it ;)

Maybe this story was more fitting for one of those D'OH threads ^^

Greetings

Well, there's your problem. Your shields are Class A, but they are too small for the Cobra. Class A4 shields for the Cobra cost 1.6 million.

Your shields are not Class A, they are rating A. This is confusing. Rating is basically quality, A is the best.
Class means size, 2A shields means class(size) 2 and rating A. These are for smaller ships. The Cobra needs Class (size) 4 shields for optimal coverage (it says optimal mass in the details of each shield) although as some said Class (size) 3 comes close and is ok but not as good as a class 4.

These snakes are venomous, but possess a weaker venom than many other rattlesnakes. This, together with the smaller size of their venom glands, makes them less dangerous than their larger relatives. Still, any rattlesnake bite can be fatal and should be taken seriously and medical attention sought immediately.

What rating was the CMDR? I would be suspicious of any CMDR in a Sidewinder with a none harmless rating. Sidewinder is a starter ship but there is a lot of fun to be had with a souped up version mixing it with unsuspecting commanders in bigger ships.

I intridiced a player and when we fell out of frame shift drive he was flying a sidewinder

I have the 160,000 class A shield on my cobra and I saw he was wanted so I opened fire with class 2 multi cannons

He turned and did a fly by and took out my shields and put my hull down to 37% in 3 shots, he was using the pulse lasers

He then turned for another run but I managed to escape with frame shift and lived to fight another day

He didn't collide with me and there wasn't any lag, but ive never known a sidewinder to have so much fire power

Is it possible for this to happen? Or was this some sort of cheat?

Just wanted to know before I report the player

What do you mean 160,000 Class A shield on Cobra? :O The best shield generator you can equip on Cobra is A4 and it costs 1.6M Cr. If you have installed the smaller size A class shield generator on Cobra with the price of 160k Cr then your shields should be pretty week and I think it should not be a problem to take them down.

How do you know he was using pulse lasers? Was he using 2 pulse lasers? Is it possible that one of the weapons was a rail gun?

Three hits does sound... unlikely to take down even standard cobra shields with pulse lasers. I would attribute it to something bugging out before chalking it up to a hack though.

Any chance he had a plasma accelerator? Those things are nasty, but I'm not sure a sidey can fit one.

Rail guns are a candidate. They can do significant amounts of damage in one volley, assuming you can score a hit. I would fully expect to take out the shields on anything less than a fully tanked Cobra in a couple of volleys (and 160k class A shields sounds suspiciously like it's too low class).

Source: Buggering about with a maxed out Sidey last night trying weird and wonderful weapons fit last night :)

Well there's pilots and there's Pilots!. So I suggest you swallow your pride and carry on playing, you can't really report someone for being better than you.

You've got the wrong shield on your cobra by the looks of it. It will appear to work but as soon as someone shoots at you it will vanish.

Also, how many pips did you have in SYS? If you had no pips as well then that would explain why your shields went down so quickly.

The Class A shield that goes in the Cobra is about 1.5m IIRC, it's a size 4 slot.

Definitely sounds like a shield class issue to me.
Easy mistake to make add it's not made clear what all the specs mean. There could be a lot more detail in the outfitting section for comparison.
Shields as a case in point, get more expensive and consume more power but there is exactly zero indication of greater capability or functionality.
Thrusters on the other hand are very easy to compare.

A fully kitted sidewinder can be tougher than a non-kitted cobra.

It's possible to take down shields in a few shots and the armor too, it all goes down to which weapons he used.

There could have been some lag issues and you were hit more times than you noticed, sometimes syncing isn't perfect.
