Best customization for Oculus Rift Touch controllers

I just bought this and am playing on Oculus Rift via their standard Touch controllers. The default settings for the Touch controllers don't seem correct in the game (as in, when you switch it from "mouse and keyboard" to "oculus touch controllers" in the control options of the game) - for example, it keeps telling me to push J to do something, and there is no J on the Touch. It's like it's leftover from the mouse/keyboard settings, leaving me without an Oculus Rift alternative or something.

Is there a guide anywhere that helps Rift users customize their control settings so that it works more efficiently and, most importantly, all of it can actually be done with the Rift controllers? I'm sure someone far more savvy than myself has taken advantage of the customization options and come up with something better than the default.

When I saw there were 1,500+ reviews, mostly positive, specifically on the Rift, I figured it must be well-adapted to the Rift. Now I'm sitting here wondering what these 1,500 other people are doing with the same controllers I am that is actually working for them lol

I tried customizing the settings on my own but there's so many, I have no idea what I should set to do what, and it also seems to only allow me to personally customize things to a single button rather than a button combo, which is obviously necessary to handle how many different actions have to be executable. I literally am just on the 2nd training mission, so I don't understand the game even remotely enough to know what set-up is smart, either lol

Any advice?
Yes, I do hope to get a HOTAS in the future, I just can't swing that right now, so I am limited to the Touch controllers for the time being.

Use m&k until you get a HOTAS.

This. Or even a controller. ED is amazing in VR, a HOTAS is well worth it and the basic ones wont break the back either.
The Rift controllers are great for some things, personally I have no intention of using them for ED. I only use them to dashboard out to Windows/browsers etc.

Enjoy CMDR :-]

Hotas + Voice Attack and a HCS voice pack and you will feel the immersion.

Don't waste too much more of your time with the touch controllers. Great for other games, but not for Elite.

I also use a rift and I ditched the touch controllers on the second day, no real functionality for them as the cockpits are not "touch" interactive. Using an old Force Feedback 2 for the basics and the keyboard (I've some marks on it). But I know that I need a proper HOTAS.

But in any case, forget the touch controllers for simulations like this one. I tried to use them with IL-2 BoS and didn't work too.

I'm more or less in the same situation as you. I've managed to do all the tutorials and last week just bought myself a dolphin. (i'm 4 weeks into de game)
I can only imagine how the HOTAS must be better (since i don't own one) BUT, to be fair, the touch controllers are doing fairly, if not suprisingly well for me!

The only issue i have is this:

.

For the life of me i can't customize combos with the sticks. If you (or somebody else) can solve this problem. At least for me, the touch controllers should suffice.

I've never used my Touch Controllers for ED.

I did have an X52, but alas it broke, so now I have this and it works great.
Price seems to be going up, as it was £40 when I bought it. But for ED, a HOTAS, Voice Attack and a Rift are amazing together.

I've got a Thrustmaster Cougar and I use VA, but I find the touch controllers nice for FSS and the Galaxy Map. I'll probably use it for other modes too - I'm thinking the free camera and the planetary scanner. I have a stand for the HOTAS and I hang the Oculus controllers from it so they are easy to access.

For FSS and Discovery planet mapping I jump to the mouse, pretty easy and the touch battery doesn't run dry of energy.
