Best ever PC games ever created ever thread.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (all three with SOC being my fave - with mods etc. - imho most under-rated game of all time; still hoping for a sequel one day)
Fallout 3 (modded)
Oblivion (modded)
Farcry 2,3
Elite Dangerous
Civ 3,4,5
Supreme Commander (FA)
Sins of a Solar Empire
Saints Row 3
Borderlands 1,2
Bioshock
Company of Heroes (1)

This thread has me wanting to play them all again . .

Am currently in the midst of another Borderlands 2 run in prep for getting the Pre-Sequel next Steam-sale. . .

I usually refrain from mentioning resonably new/recent games when commenting on subjects like this.

But as I recently finished The Witcher 3 (after having a gaming break over the summer) I can, in all honesty say, that TW3 is without a doubt the best RPG/Adventure game ive ever played and likely the best game period.
I said earlier, when about halfway through, that the game was a serious candidate for the best RPG ever. And since then, my feelings towards the game have only become better and better.
And coming out of it, I now have a sense of emptiness and actually feeling a bit down that this "adventure" is over and done with.

I cant see how I can go back to other games in the genre after this, none of them or those planned comes even close to the experience ive had with TW3.
I got MGSV coming next week and that will keep me occupied for some time, and to that there are the two expansions planned for TW3 to look forward to so I guess ill have to fire up a new game + this coming winter.

But man o man what an amazing experience.

paid no consideration as to whether they came out on consoles too...as long as there was a pc version

Ultima VII
Freelancer
WC: privateer
Oblivion
Just Cause 2 (expecting to name the upcoming third in december my GOTY)
GTA: San andreas (didn't like IV at all and V is good but like...i dont know..maybe gta hasnt aged well..got bored of it before the end anyway)
Sims 2
Hitman series (the peak being blood money of course)
Test Drive Unlimited
Far Cry 4 (i would say series but the second was bad and the third was good but had a horrible story and characters so the fourth is like the 3rd but with an actually decent story)
DC Universe Online (controversial pick surely...to be fair this game could be done a hundred times better but...that's what we got..my opinion might be tainted by the fact i got hooked on it...i mean hooked as in like a junkie. i quit cold turkey after doing pretty much little else for nearly two years...never went back)
Minecraft (modded of course...modded i would dare call it the best pc game of the last ten years)

some more i'm forgetting...maybe later

Crusader Kings II (like duh)
Mount and Blade ( i played this in pre release form...for like 2 years or more.. it was so raw back then and yet...when you've got good gameplay)

and like it's very flawed but in the draught years between freelancer and ED, that little game called Evochron: Mercenary kept my thirst for space sims nearly quenched. In the best ever pc games list? i don't know, but the one person behind the game deserves all the credit from ALL space simmers out there for carrying the torch and keeping the dream alive for all these years (guy has been making nothing but space sims alone since 1989). I almost felt bad when i dropped it in favor of ED.

Lost track of the Ultima games, had to google this to confirm it's the one I was thinking of...for you young 'uns this is what you used to get when you bought a game:

still have the cloth map for Ultima VII. and you know...these weren't collector's editions or anything either. there was only one edition...

The great games are the ones you look back on in ten, twenty or even thirty years time and remember.

Elite - the original 1984 game. Mike Singletons Lord of Midnight. The Monkey Island adventures.

Gonna need to add Shores of hazeron first person multiplayer 4X game

Start on a habitable world with nothing but a knife and work your way up by forging your own technological civilization in procedurally generated universe.

You can form empires and get your friends to join your empires as you design characters, design and construct Star ships to explore, survey resources, construct new colonies and interact with other player empires of the universe, all from the perspective of an FPS with Birds eye view when building cities.

Wage war, Ally or do shenanigans with other empires against or for other empires, The Level of Emergent game play in Shores of hazeron is absurd.

My feelings are pretty much the same. It is the ultimate cRPG and the type of cRPG that I've hoped to see one day for well over two decades.

Its without doubt the most memorable game ive ever played, that makes it the best one IMO.
Most good games give me one or two fond moments from the game that I will remember.

The witcher 3, alone, gave me more of those moments then all previous games combined.

Perhaps a bit controversial as it's still in Early Access, but I'd put forward Dirt: Rally as one of the best PC games ever. Codemasters have taken a console-focussed series, stripped it of all the dude-bro guff, improved the underlying simulation, and made it about 5x harder to get into. Thus it has risen from being a semi-decent console title, to a true contender for the Richard Burns' Rally crown of 'best rally game ever made'.

That was a (doubtlessly) great game, had hundreds of a laugh with it - but again then on SLI GT660's there has been a very unavoidable crash approximately forty five minutes playtime in, irrespective of what you probably did :( I would possibly try to locate it on GOG or some thing and try once more. Witcher three, urm, thumbs down from me - but plenty other humans adore it :)

Curious as to what you guys think are the best ever PC games? You can list 1, 3, 10, 100 or as many as you like. You can give reasons for why you believe they are the best games as well, up to you.

Also if you add your age it would be cool, but obviously not a requirement!

I'm not going to add my own list - right now - as I don't want to influence other people's choices. Cheers!

Civilization
Tie between Command & Conquer: Red Alert
Age of Empires II
Half-Life
Rome: Total War
Elite: Dangerous (never played the originals, sadly)

Honourable mention as well for Another World (Also released as Out of This World). Blew my mind.

Seconded. I've not played a game since ShoC that was so full of atmosphere. The mods, some now completely stand alone, are good too, with Road to the North being my favourite at the moment.

I'm also a big fan of System Shock 1 and 2, so I'm looking forward to the remake. Also Microsoft Flight Sims, so, this year could be good for me.

obviously these are era dependant, some i did prefer the sequels but unless vastly better than the 1st i usually would credit the 1st game (that said there are a lot of number 2s down there)

(and i definitely forgot some)

Elite
Elite 2 Frontier (Sorry frontier... regardless of whos fault it was 1st enounters was too ruined with bugs to make my list even tho i loved it)
Elite Dangerous
Dirt Rally
Kick Off 2 - improved the 1st gmae in every way
Stunt Car Racer
Turrican 2 - again more of the same but just better accross the board.
Rtype
Xenon 2 - not really a sequel, its not recognisable from 1st game
Speedball 2 -.. i loved the 1st game as well and number 1 even had varied pitches, but number 2 was just sublime (still is and have a nice hd remake on steam)
Super Cars 2 - bigger better version of 1st game with more upgrades etc.
super skid marks
John madden Football truth is i am not a fan of the sport but even i could appreciate it.
Chocks Away I was so jealous of my mates Archimedes largly for this game (and a super elite port)
SWOS
Wizball - an 8 bit master piece, also great on the amiga.
Gears of war - 1st game i saw where they had to put "this is ingame footage" on the advert because no one would believe it. in some ways gears 2 and 3 were better but this one started it.
Halo Reach i dont know how they got that on an xbox
Forza
Metropolis Street Racer The father of project gotham racing... pre internet so when it shipped with bugs Sega posted out replacement disks with a new build on.
Sega Virtua Tennis - still the best tennis game ever made imo.
Borderlands 2 - loved BL1 but found the environments samey. BL2 fixed this.
Bioshock
Fallout 3 my 1st fallout game........
GTA 3 - the 1st game to make it to proper 3D and the 1st GTA game i thought was any good tbh.
Resident Evil
Wipeout 2097
Toca touring car
Smugglers Run i would dearly love to see a sequel.
Insane this had a sequel and i dearly wish it hadnt!.
Quake 2 - i just know i will play again when i get rtx card.

edit.. .damn i missed the "PC games" bit... oh well most were on PC
