Best HOTAS and VR System for elite

Can you use both at the same time? Which ones to get? I want to fly my spaceship in VR from my bedroom. The tiny screen of my 15” MBP is not big enough. Could use an external monitor I suppose.

You'll practically have to use a HOTAS (or HOSAS) if you want to fly on VR. So that's a "yes" to that question.
As for "best" - well...
Start with an HP reverb (G2) as VR headset.
Add some nice headphones - I just got Yamaha 150s, the sound is ok, haven't tried them over the VR headset yet.
Then get a pair of Virpils - Constellation Alpha plus throttle for HOTAS, dual Alphas (r+l) for HOSAS).
Maybe add a small keyboard and another box full of toggles, dials and buttons (I've seen people use the panel from a tractor simulator, I'm currently building my own). You can't have too many buttons in ED. But you may need to write a few scripts, as not enough functions in ED will natively support toggles.
Maybe add voice control like the HCS voicepacks (I don't like voice control, too clumsy, bit the HCS packs have a lot of fans with ED).
Bolt everything to a comfortable chair (I like the Ikea Poäng).
Oh, almost forgot. You'll need a good GPU, CPU and PSU. AMD 6800 XT (or Nvidia 3800-ish) with a current series Ryzen 7, for example.
An Nvidia 1080ti will be able to stand in until you can grab something better.

Oh wow that setup sounds absolutely BLITZ and I will have that in my Gaming Shed when it’s ready but for now, as in small bedroom, have no space for panels of switches. So go with the HP Reverb. I’ll get an eGPU and stick the Radeon card which is most powerful and compatible with both OSX and Windows. I’m running it in bootcamp with Windows on an external disk.

Laptop is: MacBook Pro 6
Core i7 and Radeon Pro 560x with 16gb RAM running Windows on an external SSD in bootcamp. So also thinking eGPU to take the heat out of the MacBook and provide a ton more graphics processing power.

And maybe I should mention: their sales policy is strange (read the details on the site): You order and give them your card details. Maybe a month later, maybe two, they'll charge your card. Another few weeks after that, and they'll ship your order.

Possibly beyond my budget for a first time HOTAS. How about Thrustmaster HOTAS?

If you're talking about the T16000M - it serves. A lot of people use it - I did, too. Its shortcomings are the lack of buttons (you'll need to use modifiers) and the failure rate of the twist pot. For the latter, you can find instructions on the web for repair, and even for replacing it with a hall effect sensor.

I've dealt with lack of buttons (using an Xbox 360 compatible controller) by installing and using Voiceattack for a lot of utility commands. That way I can keep my hands on the gamepad and for non-mapped functions don't have to reach for the keyboard. Though it has taken a LOT of work to get Voiceattack where I want it.

An HOTAS would be really nice though. Budget yo.

Hi I did not get notified of replies to this thread sorry. In the end I bought the Logitech X56 to be going on with in hopes I don’t get a duff product as plenty of reviews complaining of quality control, although 60% are 5* plus. It certainly looks really nice, and a YT reviewer said he had more than enough bindings including navigating menus.

What is a HOSAS?
