Best Processor for Planet Zoo

I am going to start building a PC and wanted to know what the best processor is to use for this game. I know games like this and PlanCo use a lot of cores so just wanted to see what everyone was using or suggestions.

The Cobra Engine is an efficient engine which requires relatively few CPU resources. You do not need to size your build for a game like Planet Zoo (or Elite dangerous). You have more need for a decent GPU. Choosing the right GPU depends on the resolution and desired refresh rate (of your monitor).

Things that are heavy on your CPU are for instance:
  • Encoding/decoding encryption/decryption
  • working with 3d objects
  • Working with audio (realtime)
  • Interference, sorting (Databases)
  • calculations (Pi, Boolean surfaces, integers)
  • Virus scanning, deduplication
Planet zoo recommended PC specs are listed here: https://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=35924&game=Planet Zoo

So a quad core with 8 threads is easily enough to run the game smoothly. (Close your browsers; they can be a resource hog)

Hope this Helps!

This is not true at all, Planet Coaster & Planet Zoo are very CPU heavy games.

Care to explain? Here is another page listing RECOMMENDED specs:

The mentioned Intel CPU was released in 2013. That is SIX years ago

Some keyboard warrior you are...

FD must be wrong in their recommendation and hire you.
Nah, just don't want someone being told bad information when they're building a computer. CPU is very important for this game & telling them it's not is not helpful nor is pointing to system requirements and saying, "See? a 6 year old processor is fine!" as if that helps your argument or helps this person looking for a really good CPU.

That was my understanding! I remember seeing on the PLANCO forums a long time ago CPU was much more important than GPU. That is why I was asking

Do you hav rec for a CPU?

best cpu for gaming you ask i9 9900k. and even that one is to slow for big parks . to get very high fps. we are just not there yet

i get in scenario sometimes only 35 fps with the 9900k......it shiould be twice as fast to get 60 fps and even then it would strugle hope u get it.

I guess a cpu with a lot of cores is a good choice.

There is a huge difference (like in planet coaster) if you have an empty park or a park with a lot of visitors. (btw in elite dangerous you don't have visitors :p )

If you have thousands of them, your framerate drops even if you look straight to the ground and all cores are unter load.

If someone has a 12 core or even 16 core cpu, it would by interesseting what happens, when you turn some cores of.

Clock speed over cores (to a certain extent) can give better results.
This is solely because of the version of DirectX used in Planet Zoo/Planet Coaster which only uses one core for it's pipeline.
For Intel processors look at both the base clock frequency and turbo speed. A 4 core with faster base clock speed can outperform a 6 core with lower base clock speed.
Also watch out when buying components, sometimes the Intel processors are listed with their base clock frequency and sometimes listed with their maximum turbo speed.

How big do your parks get till you start to notice some issues with lag?

In Planco i start to notice heavier lag when my Parks get above 10000 guests as it's the guests that causes the drop in FPS and causing lag.if I like set the max to 8000 guests then i can make the park as big as the maps allow and still play without lag. Also i have 24 GB of memory ram no idea if that plays a role in Planco but i did noticea difference because i started out with only 8 GB on this PC but after the upgrade to 24 i saw a huge improvement.

Gotcha! I plan on using an i7 and 16gb of ram so hopefully I can make this work on my end.

Agree it is VERY CPU heavy. I'm not very tech savvy, but I opened task manager the other day and it was running at 88%.. that's more than any other game I've played. I have AMD FX8300 (GtX 1050ti graphics) which I believe is closer to the minimum? Looking at upgrading it myself..

Edit to add, my hubby is slightly more in the know than me. We joint built my PC, I sorted the parts and he put them all together! 😆
