The sidey is the best learner ship out there.
Go learn!
Although I would personally start with 1000cr as you are only reducing your play time with that much money in your account.
thanks-- I tried this and it didn't work.
I'm now in an orca, and apparently earned interest on my $50m, now have over $100m.
Does everyone know this trick? why on earth does anyone complain about not having money in this game if it's so simple to earn interest

Start with the small ships - Sidewinder, Hauler, Eagle - to get a feel for the game. You will smash a few hulls when you're starting out and it's better not to use up your fortune to do so.
Get in the habit of checknig your balance against the insurance excess (on the left-hand-side of the right panel) every time you take off. It's an essential habit to get into; if you don't then you can lose everything very, very easily.
As a very approximate rule of thumb, you can expect to spend the cost of a new ship over again for fitting out, buying cargo and keeping the insurance excess in the bank.
so as long as I have enough credits on me, I don't have to worry about insurance?
there's no "bank" per se, right? I can carry around my credits without worrying about it getting stolen?
