Best Ship for Conflict Zones?

440m/s? Are you sure? What is your build? Also when you boost subsequently, do you remain above 400-420m/s? Or drop below that, then boost, then drop below, then boost, etc..?

I used to fly a Cobra at conflict zones, either full cannons to take down shieldless Python/Anaconda, or one small beam and full missiles to take down small ships and get merits.
They fly around 455m/s with empty tank, and stay above 420m/s in a straight line...perfect when there are other commanders from opposite faction around you :)

in all honesty, top speed is 438 with A graded thrusters and power distributor. everything else on D (even shields) to save on weight. top boost is 438, drops to 420 then boost again. it is all about timing: just before you pass.

Thanks for confirming.
i'll have to give it a try and see how it performs compare to a Cobra.

For some reason I find it highly amusing getting rammed by an Anny... you can see it comming you push down hard on the stick... light up the thrusters.

But if you are too slow... KAPOW! Have some of that!

Awesome game mechanic. I laugh every time I get bumped.

Vulture for me. i have a warship Anaconda which absolutely rocks and works great in a CZ - until things go bad and she needs to run.* - running is not an Anaconda's strong suit. a Vulture, although taking far longer to kill a target, can command the battle by being able to withdraw at will. although her speed is not great, her boost recharges very quickly so that balances it out a lot

*Siren the Anaconda only got 3 kills before the 'red tide' caused her shields to drop, that was my fault for not paying attention. the 'red tide' is when you suddenly discover you're the only green dot in a sea of red ones, and the red ones don't like you much...

I would say the Vulture would be a real contender in a wing. It has good shields, but not good enough for the inevitable focus-fire the NPC's like to do. Even the Python will have to start popping SCB's if three or more ships start to gang-up.

I disagree, my kitted Vulture stays in CZ's for hours with only the occasional "run to the sun" to get her breath back.

I like grinding my 5000 merits a week using a vulture at military zones. I think it's ideal for this as you want to kill as many ships as possible including all the little ones. It's not too hard, just takes a while.

I would say that first and foremost it is the Anaconda. You can dominate a CZ so hard that there are no enemy ships aside from the ones that end up having to spawn. Which is right near you and the fleet you are sided with. You pretty much pick them off as they respawn and get another group to respawn.... net result is a lot of credits. The next would be the Python, then the FAS, then the Vulture.

Anaconda with four fixed C3 beam lasers and four gimballed pulses.

big lasers to kill Pythons and Anacondas, small lasers in case you get fighter agro.

I'm doing quite well in CZ in my vulture.

Sure there is some Radar Threat Assessment skills, Furball Positional Awareness, and non cell boosted shield management skills (all related to general Situational Awareness) to master, but I've personally been there months ago. Often when I return to base its to cash in 2.2-2.6 million CR each sortie, the only thing bringing me away is either pilot fatigue, Ran out of Chaff, or the occasional anaconda ram.

But that just me. The important thing to realize about "best ship for X" is each individual pilot's skillset. So what's profitable and fun for me may be sheer suicide for you, and honestly- vice versa- I may perform lousy in your ship/style. There is no cut and dried clear better ship. An elite pilot could probably do quite well in an Eagle when compared to a competent Python. when I reset my savegame at newyears, I was KILLING it in the humble sidewinder (made my money for outfitted cobra in about an hour)- again; its more about the pilot than the ship.

But when comparing Vulture to Python- Ive found when winged up with a buddy in his python he had to return to base 3-4 times more often than I did (to rearm/restock shield cells)- and in the end, my combat endurance (no expendables besides chaff) netted me more bounty payouts in the same afternoon's play. (he would get ~400M each dock, I would get ~1.7M)

Wow!..you sound just awesome - and modest into the bargain..what a catch!

anything works really, but most often i take something that has a bit of speed.
that makes it easier to kill steal from the npc's and dodge out of trouble when things hits the fan.
