Newcomer / Intro Best Ship For Exploration?

Anaconda is the best exploration ship. I can cross the galaxy without having to agonize over what I can't fit in my suitcase. Plus there's plenty of room for a bowling alley, an olympic size swimming pool, a golf course, and 100 tons of slaves to keep everything working.

I prefer Imperial Slaves to the garden variety. They are more expensive, but they're worth it.

Diamondback Explorer.
Low Cost, acceptable fuel-scoop, all scanners, quick.
And in case of attack well armed.
For me a little bit better than the ASP.
Other ships are out of the race.

Depends on how much money you have to spend! Upgrading an Asp is an expensive business but it is a great explorer.

I'm confused about the "expensive business" part of your comment. I outfitted an Asp for multi-role with A-grade power, thrusters, distributor, full weapons, 64T cargo, 5A shield, SCB, 3A scoop, advanced/detailed/kws scanners, interdictor and 3 A0 boosters. The whole thing came to only 32M! That's cheap, cheap, cheap for such a high grade multi-role ship with 30LY range!

But it's a lot of money for a newbie, and this is the newcomers' forum...

Yeah, the biggest spend when it comes to exploration for a newcomer is going to be the Advanced Discovery Scanner and Detailed Surface Scanner, as the cost of both together is some where around 1.8 million, and you really need them both if you're thinking of going out on a proper exploring trip. I honestly wouldn't even contemplate leaving the core with just a basic or intermediate scanner. A million creds when you're a newbie starting out in a Sidewinder just seems like a ridiculous amount of money. Took me a while to make my first million. In that respect I think exploration is probably the most costly trade to break into for a new player, and yet conversely it's also the least well paid.
