Best ship for trade and fighting?

@gr4474 - I made between 1100 and 1800 per ton for every single part of the trip. I expanded the trip now to be a 5 station trip instead to spread out the decline in demand. Calculated that it took me 35 minutes to do a round trip with 680k in profit. So 1.2m/hour.

Since I'm off in an Asp now and soon off to the other end of the galaxy, here it is

Wuru (Progenitor) -> Eotienses (Beryllium) -> Vequess (Marine Eq) -> Futhark (Imp Slaves) -> CD-53 136 (Palladium/Silver or Gold) -> Wuru

Its not hard finding very local one way very profitable trips, but usually the return trip is very bad. But using the online trade tool simply start plotting a somewhat circular route and expand from there. And keep an eye out that you are trading with the right faction, so your rep goes up too.

How much do you make per ton in that route? When you say 4 stops, do you mean docking and trading at each stop, or just jumping to the next system? I was at $1,850 per ton doing round trip with 2 jumps, but tweaked that route and added a stop (docking and trading) in one of the same systems in my route. That puts me at 2115 per ton per trip for a 3 way trade.

Ok so my math was way off. I added both trades, but didn't average them out...so I actually was doing 925 per to on the 2 jumper, and 705 per ton on the 3 way. (it was a very close station, so I didn't mind that 3rd stop) I have been digging all night, and after a tip to clear the data, and force a download on the tool. I got rid of allot of trash data, and was able to find a 2 station stop, doing 4 jumps averaging 1293. Some people complain that were cheating using tools...but I've been taking days to find a good one. Allot of bad data and a few wasted trips. The new update is fast now, but it's missing the "round trip" option, so there's allot of cross checking systems and digging. Loving it though...it's fun in a way.

I've used all the ships except the Type9 and Anaconda and for me the best trader/combat ships in order of price-point are Cobra, Asp and Python. Obviously when they introduce some new ships things may change but for now I feel the overall best trader/combat ship is the Python (but you need to generate a lot of cash to buy it, upgrade it and run it). The Python, once upgraded, is nimble, fast and hard-hitting - I currently have 224t cargo space (but you could have more if you ditched the discovery scanner). Also, the Python is a medium ship-size so you can land it at outposts which is important for trading, missions, smuggling, stolen goods and paying off fines.

The good thing about the Cobra is it is good at trading and combat when equipped but the insurance costs if you die are not too crazy.

Adder seems to be a good all-rounder for a beginner, at least now I can carry a reasonable cargo AND have shields; ah the luxury! :)

Still need to pick my fights carefully mind.

I just got into my Asp a couple nights ago. I have it set as a well armed trader. 2 beams, 4 multi cannons, basic exploration scanner, a class 3A shield, and 116 tons of cargo space.

I am currently doing a 21 system loop on rares that nets me about 2 million round trip. I have no idea how fast I can do the route, because I have a tendency to get sidetracked with missions, or bounty hunting, or exploration as these things present themselves. This play style mixes things up very nicely, and in about a month or so I will be able to move on to a python if I so desire. I may just start banking credits for the next release of ships and see what they have, or completely pimp out my Asp.

I am absolutely loving this ship. I went sidey->hauler->cobra, then purchased a lakon-6 to haul, and took breaks with my cobra when trading got boring. I sold both ships to get into my Asp. I have been playing since gamma, enjoying what the game has to offer.

I just bought my Cobra. :D WOW I love it. Also what took me 12 jumps in the Adder to go buy it...took me 5 jumps to get back! The Adder had the 169,000 credit FS Drive, and I put the 179,000 or something in the Cobra.

I went to help my wife for a sec, just as I warped into a station...and I crashed into it and blew up! I lost my new Cobra full of gold. :( I forgot to turn off my engine...and they should default it at 0 when arriving. I always boost to the station, and use thrusters anyway, and have had several close calls. I talked the salesman into giving back my Adder, since I had no more money for cargo.

My Asp is fully kitted out as a trader / explorer / fighter

All A grades, 72t cargo, advanced and detail scanners, 4 x gimballed beam for shields and 2 x gimballed multi cannons. Has full array of defences too, point, chaff, shield loads and warrant scanner

Last time I looked, 15mil worth

It is a killing machine and very capable of trading nicely up to 72t to bring in some extra money.

Also have a Type 6 108t stripped for basic trading.
