Ships Best small combat ship

Yes. A beginner is going to have trouble locating opponents, flying to them and getting even a single shot in. They will kill a ship once every few minutes at best, without KWS scanning. For a true beginner even 1m is optimistic.
If they shoot a ship every few minutes, say 25 per hour, that would get them about 5 mil per hour on average.

From what you're saying, I can't believe that you have any experience of using a Sidewinder in a high RES, like the one in Dromi, where the starter mission takes you. There are ships all around. I suggest you get a Sidewinder and go to any High RES, then come back and comment.

Dude, I am elite in combat with well over 10000 kills. I am not talking about what I can do. I am talking about a beginner.

They don't kill 25 ships per hour. Not even remotely close. It takes them 10 minutes to even get anywhere. They shoot a ship every five minutes at best. When they select one they struggle reading the radar. They struggle controlling yaw and pitch independently. Half the time they select the wrong ship and cops shoot them. When docking they are either in a queue for five minutes or spend more docking manually.

A true beginner does not get 5 million on average in the starting sidewinder. You just have no perspective anymore on what a beginner can and can't do.

So you have very limited experience of RES farming. I guess you don't like combat to have so few kills in the time you've been playing. I see that you haven't done much in the last 12 months. Did you know that about 6 months ago they buffed the bounty payouts by a factor or 10 for the lower ones and 4 for the higher ones? Is that where your misunderstanding is coming from? Pre-buff, it was about 1 - 2 mil per hour for a starter Sidewinder, but now it's 8 - 10 mil/hr.

Have a look at this from 15:30 to 34:26 (16:03 to 1631 on the ship's clock). 4.5 mil in 28 minutes without even trying. There are 12 kills from 16:06 to 16:30 (ships time), which is 30 kills per hour. Tell me what in this video a beginner couldn't do? Bear in mind that this is for absolute beginners, who have just done their initial training to get their pilot's licence and knows how to boost and target a ship, which is all you need to know, not somebody looking to choose a Viper! you can play it at 2 x speed to save time, and you can still hear and see what's going on.

Lol, that is such a daft thing to say after hearing I am elite with 10,000+ kills, no clue what your goal here is. Whatever it is it ain't worth my time though so best of luck with your rant. (y)

Wow you are so arrogant and out of touch with how new players actual feel and do in the game. I'd feel embarrassed for you if I cared enough.

It's not what new player 'could do' but more what they know 'how to do'. You with many many hours in ED claiming 'it's so easy' just comes across as arrogance and not helpful at all.

AND completely off topic, you know "What's the best small combat ship" thing :p

One ship I've not heard mentioned in this thread much yet is the DBX. It has more raw DPS output then the Vulture, freezing cold, tough hull (shield is pants though) and if you know how to fly it (i.e. like a helo rather than a plane) then it clear CZ's and RES nice and tidily.

Try watching the video that i linked above then tell me what happened in it that you think a beginner would have trouble with. It's you that's arrogant and presumptious. I spend a lot of time helping newbs with combat and and I've made several Youtube instructional series.

Again completely oblivious to how new players actually play the game... There is nothing that a new player couldn't do to earn those kind of kills/moneys etc but like previously pointed out they don't know 'How' to do such activities by themselves.

IF you do actually help new players out then good on you, I run an entire group that helps players out but I still don't claim that just because I or anyone in my group can do certain things fairly easily that any new player can just jump in a do it it with the same efficiency or ability. THAT is the arrogant part of your post.

But feel free to believe this and post more constructive answers to the best small combat ship question.

And advertising them here actually derailed the thread. May ask yourself why ;)
I don't advertise them. None of my videos are monetised. I only make them to help people. In this case I posted the video as evidence about how money can be made in a Sidewinder getting bounties in a high RES without requiring any skill. I did this because Ian skippy said it couldn't be done because he didn't know that the payouts had been buffed.

Secondly, OP is asking about combat ships, presumably because he has limited experience of combat and how to do it, especially as he only joined a few days ago and said that he doesn't know what a CZ or Haz RES is. My video series would be very helful for him, as it takes people through the basic skills they need, which ships to use and why, and how to use them.

Hello RebornxMystic, in advance sorry for my english it's not my native tongue.

i've began the game recently (6 april) so being new to the game is still fresh to me, so maybe my experience with some of the small ship (vulture and MK3 cobra) will help you.

i rushed the mk3 cobra because on the paper it seemed a good ship for multipurpose and being new to the game i didn't know exactly what i wanted/needed to have fun so having a beginner multipurpose ship to do a little of everything until i settle on an activity and buy a more specialised ship worked pretty well (except combat zone who needed a more specialised/engineered ship) but for bounty hunting/mining/trading/exploring/smuggling/pirating it worked more than adequatly for the price and if you die in it the rebuy cost being low helped (so it doesn't feel bad/frustrating to die because i was a noob), beware one thing with it : the stock shield suck.

Then when i settled on doing bounty hunting as my main activity i bought directly a vulture (loved the skin and i had like 20m from exploring/bounty hunting mainly) but without engineers the vulture is frustrating because the stock power plant is very restrictive power wise so you will not be able to get the most out of your rank 3 Hardpoint and will be limited to pulse laser or kinetic weapon since they don't draw much power, everything else ? forget it, also another thing to note is that the vulture is only good for combat you will not have spare space for cargo, fuel scoop, amfu without heavily gimping the ship potential for combat, your jump distance and your fuel tank are crap so for every other activity in the game or just travelling to a far away system you will certainly have to switch ship.

in resume :

Mk3 cobra : good ship to test the game as a new player.
Vulture : very good combat ship but only if you have some engineers unlocked (power plant being the most important to unlock his potential).

Hope it help a little

Is it the most practical small combat ship? Probably not.

Is it the most fun? Probably.
Some suggestions: 3D instead of 2A FSD, engineered it's .1t more but 50% more range. Drop fuel tank to c1, you scoop in seconds and it saves 2t. Dazzle/tlb/df as specials for two of the PAs, add a few c1 GSB. Replace one or two boosters with chaff.

59% more range, 50% more shields, perna chaff for minutes and gimball trolling afterwards via the PAs. Totally viable in Open.

Fast courier is pretty much ungankable... lovely ship.

Doesn't hoon as well as the other fast ships (still better than the imp eagle though that ship is total crap) but one of the best mulitrole smalls out IMO.

so, i got bored with large armed to teeth deathstar ships and wanted to fly some small nimble ship again and i made this: git gud vulture

optional internals may be tweeked a bit tho (same as utility by your choice, but that shield resist is important tho), but whole idea is lock on target, tail it and burst it down. with 3-4 weaps pips and thermal vent on both beams it can fire a loooooong time if you are hiting (and youll be freezing cool too). fixed short range beams give SOLID punch (almost like 3x class 4 unengineered gimbal beams!!!).
its all about keeping your target in sights in less then 600m and you can kill anything.

flying it in hazres now and its hella fun.

That's a loooooooot of engineering for a concept build. Do people actually build stuff they design like this? Or just theory-craft wishlisting?

By the time you've got several "perfect" builds, you've often got quite a few left over modules from wrong turns. For example, for Odyssey I wanted something capable of scanning planets, raining down Air to Surface bombardment and survive under attack from base defences. I had a couple of builds that didn't work out previously, so I didn't have to do any engineering, just swap the pieces out.
