Best station in Colonia?

As of writing, currently slowly making my way to Colonia, taking a scenic route. Once I eventually arrive though, I'll need a station to make my base camp while I'm in Colonia. I'm not transferring any ships, so all I'll have on arrival is my exploration ship. Therefore I'll need to be in an area I can buy a small fleet. It'll be small and basic though, as I plan to explore the local area mostly, but I also might do other things to mix it up. I'm mainly doing it this way to 'live off the land', and becuase it'll be cheaper than transferring a fleet (I'm cheap like that).

Bearing the above in mind, as well as base camp just being generally interesting, where should I call home when I arrive in Colonia?

Generally speaking, your best bet are the stations in Colonia itself (Jaques Station and Colonia Hub, especially), which should do you for most things in the area. Module availablity can be a bit funny, with some things appearing to go out of stock for a time, but things will appear eventually.

Robardin Rock in Carcosa has a few ships you won't get elsewhere in the nebula as well (Alliance ships along with FDS, FAS and FGS).

Carcosa is the obvious choice if you want Alliance and Fed ships (lets see how long that lasts though) and it has a lot of modules.
Not as many as Colonia Hub/Jaques, but also not the 20% markup.
We used to have some friendly PvP there all the time, nowadays it's overrun by gankers pretending to be lawfuls though.

There is plenty of info available about the whole region at @Ian Doncaster's Colonia Region System Database. You can even try the Radio button while you fly.

Spend some time to visit the various systems, spread around some of your exploration data to increase rep with the local factions, and soon you'll find yourself a favourite system and Station. Colonia and Jacques is a good choice, being almost in the physical centre, but I prefer Carcosa and Robardin Rock as my home. If you happen to visit, you'll see why. Fly safe cmdr.

I hadn't realised that there's a 20% markup there. Maybe my plan (currently WIP) for selling ZPG/Saud Kruger ships from my carrier at cost price is slightly less ridiculous than I first thought.

Truth be told, Colonia is so small and compact that everything is within 2-3 jumps range so it doesn't really matter what station you pick as home base. If you're not set on specific place already you'll probably end in one mentioned above.

^Yep.^

It’s also worth noting that a couple smart CMDRs have started selling a good selection of A-rated modules on their fleet carriers. You can find them on Inara.

So it’s pretty easy to outfit these days, excepting some niche mods like certain hull armors for big ships.

As others have said, the region is tiny, so it doesn't really matter where you keep your ships - mine have ended up mostly "wherever I last used them".

Instead, consider selecting the station that looks nicest. Some personal favourites:
- Foster Terminal, Coeus
- Prisma Renata, Aurora Astrum
- The Bone Yard, Canis Subridens
- Vera Rubin Complex, Garuda
- Concordia Hub, Edge Fraternity Landing [1]
- Walhalla Port, Magellan
...but check them all out and see what you like.

[1] But only in spring and autumn, and it's winter right now. Winter is coming, etc.

Bisley Landing in Benzaiten for the looks. It is one of those fancy tourist stations with statues and trees in the docking bay.

Yes, my Colonia-based alt chose it for just that reason. I think it's the only station in the region with that interior. Now allied with all factions.

But, as previously mentioned, the region is small. I parked her Carrier in an uninhabited system between Benzaiten and Colonia, it's one or two jumps from Benzaiten to just about anywhere, one jump to the Carrier, one jump from the Carrier to the Colonia system.
