1 LS = 300000 km. I am positive I got the ranges right for both games. Looks like there is some kind of discrepancy in the size of the star in the two games. Or maybe it is just the way each game "looks". Someone should investigate. I would do it myself but I think my wife might kill me if I spend any more time messing with this stuff today.
I think you can make a case for either game and not be looked at like a nut job. I think I would give the nod to Elite Dangerous here. It is simply more pleasing to look at. Elite does have a heck of task trying to make their planet surfaces look as nice as Space Engine but I think they will be up to the task. We will see.
