Best weapons loadout for the Fed Assault Ship...

Hi all

I am currently piloting a FAS and loving it. It's my baby.

I am using X2 gimballed Large beam lasers and X2 gimballed Multi cannons on the medium hardpoints but...

...Can I do better? I have never tried rail guns or plazma weapons etc, would anyone recommend a better/different loadout please?

Just got my FAS and I've got gimballed multis on the medium and gimballed burst on the large. This is okay so far for HIRES but I'm looking to do combat zones after I save up and a-spec it. But the hardpoint placements are so weird I don't even know what to start with.
 
I don't have a problem with the hardpoint placement tbh, it just takes a little bit of practise to get used to it is all.

My ship is fully A rated except for armour
 
I run 1 Large G/Burst on top, 1 Large PAC and 2 Med PAC on the bottom.
With MGC, it's hull is armoured near a Conda; and for internals I have a 5A Shield, 4B Scoop and a 2B FSDi. Everything else is Hull Reinforcement.

The G/Burst is my solo use on smalls, meds don't last long when the 3 PACs hit. And for the large, 4 pips in SYS for a boost ram and fire off the PACs just as you hit means they before shieldless too ready to destroy the Power Plant.

The Wife was my go-to ship til I got The Mistress (FDL).

People who complain about Hardpoint placement are the people who want to have "easy mode" enabled as they don't want to learn.... Same goes for the FDL....

Get good with FIXED like PACs, and it'll make everything else easier

On mine after experimenting with a bunch of setups I've settled for two medium gimballed beams and large fixed beam on the bottom and large pulse on the top. The fixed beam is really good for larger targets and the pulse can chip away all day long on full wep. Switch to the smaller beams against smaller targets and bring the whole lot to bear when they're dead in the water. I've been considering switching the med beams to pulses so I can maintain fire longer.

This build is with persistence in conflict zones in mind. With a chaff lancher and a couple scbs you can hang around for ages.

I've used 2 large beam 2 medium rails. 2 large beam 2 medium multies. And on my stealth FAS I used 2 medium multies 2 large frag cannons.
 
I run two medium gimballed beams and large gimballed pulse on the bottom with a large gimballed cannon on top. Seems to do the job. Link under Ares in my sig.
 
This is all extremely subjective in terms of task, but the two I switch between are 2 Large gimbal pulses, 2 medium multi cannons, this is for consistency and sustained fire, the most fun however in my opinion is a large gimbal pulse on top, large gimbal beam on bottom and 2 imperial hammers (or rails), the large beam acts as a laser pointer essentially. Cook the small ships with the lasers and only use the rails against the big stuff.
 
You're totally right about the capacitor. I find myself looking at my hud 50% of the time during a dogfight - trying to maintain weps and keeping my shield from breaking, all while letting my thruster cap charge while banking.

The FAS is ALOT more maneuverable than the FDS though. at first i thought i had downgraded when i bought the FAS, but one engagement later and i realized how important maneuvering really is.
