Patch Notes Update Beta - 1.6 and The Engineers (2.1) incoming

Happy about some of the mining fixes for sure!

Lots of needed improvements. Little to no additional content. Just presentation and usefulness. All are welcome. I just wish eventually they'll put 2 and 2 together as to what people really want and you'll see less whining in the forums.

Seriously? The only thing I see missing at this point is full chained missions, & an overhaul of Power Play & the Military side of the game. Believe me, though, I can wait another update or two for these, based on just what I see in these patch notes.

Loving the increased detail on planets, and the performance upgrade at the same time. I have a below-min-spec machine, and fps went from 16fps (not as unplayable as you'd think) to a steady 21-23fps). I love the tracks too. Weeeeeee.

It's been a fairly steady Beta so far, only minor points:
- The transitions are taking longer.
- The reflective dashboard drops down to a low-resolution texture at times, and is very 'in your face'.
- The first time you hit a rock in your SRV, you always get a damage warning.

I love the way ED is gently nudging players down a path, a road which they have envisaged. I see war coming down the road. Up the Empire!

"- Fixed throttle setting itself to zero when exiting from hyperspace or super cruise while the game doesn't have focus"

I use that from time to time. I usually have a youtube video or something going on on another screen. I think I have enough time to do what I need to before coming out of hyperspace when it turns out I don't and throttle going to zero is a really really nice thing to have. Sure i could put my throttle to zero myself, but in that moment of "whoops" it's nice to have. Or don't point me at a star when I come out of hyperspace.

This. Bring this back. This was a feature, not a bug!

Am I missing something? Nothing has downloaded. I validate files through launcher. Nothing changes. Still running pre 2.1. All games have the Play button, not Upgrade. I purchased the game through steam a while back.

Is there any specific thing I need to do to get the update?

I just had a fight against a master Cobra in a Python. It almost felt like i was fighting another player. Running off to recharge his shield and then coming back into fight. I'm really impressed. Well done FD.

You need beta access. If you didnt pay extra for it during the pre-order, you need to buy beta access seperately. Rumors are it'll be up in the store tomorrow.

Oh ok. Thanks. So buying Horizons doesn't give you access to its updates then?I thought Engineers was part of the Horizons season pass...

Hopefuly its just that but the fact that its a phase of itself makes me worry that it will be a decent chunk of time. And even though you can get bounties in PVE the whole phase is going to disrupt game play as a whole it feels like.

Yeah, I'm hoping it's just 1-2 days at the very end of the beta testing phase ;). As someone without beta access, I want access to 2.1 ASAP!!!!

How do I get this installed? I've bought the life time pass last time it was avalible, and I ran the download from the launcher earlier today, but then when I ran the game it said I was on an out of date version, and now the play/update button is greyed out.

It still says a grey "upgrade". I am supposed to have access with the lifetime pass, right?

If you're using Steam, maybe try the workaround posted here.

1. Right click Elite Dangerous in your Steam library
2. Select ‘Properties’
3. Go to the ‘Local Files’ tab
4. Select ‘Browse Local Files’
5. Select the EDLaunch.exe
6. Login if required
7. Select Elite Dangerous: Horizons – Engineers Beta [2.1]
8. Witness how the Upgrade button is now blue and ready to ‘Upgrade’
9. Select the ‘Upgrade’ button and you should be good to go

So wait, is the FDL no longer going to be the best at heat dispersion? One of my goals was to be able to fly to Sag A*'s body exclusion zone without exploding from heat. As far as I can tell, the FDL is the only safe option for this. (DBX got a bit hot on approach) If so I guess I had best get going if I am going to make it there before the beta ends.
