ok this might be of use

Here are some instructions for installing ED to your preferred drive and folder. I have tested and verified this works a few times now.

1. Run the Client-Installer.exe
2. Choose the drive and or folder you wish to use. In my case D:\Elite
3. Let the launcher install finish, if it is running, close the launcher window, do not login
4. Navigate to where you installed the launcher, in my case D:\Elite, and create a folder called Products in the launcher folder. EG: - D:\Elite\Products
5. Now start the launcher again, log in and install the client.
6. When the download is complete you should see the install as automatically installed the client in the folder you created called Product.

For those that have not been in this situation before with Elite. Here is what to expect, not being negative just what is probably going to happen.

1) If your in game, the server will disconnect
2) MB may post some notes.
3) You might be able to click upgrade if you restart you client or you will have to download a new client.
4) Wait for the client to be updated
5) Watch the orange bar update at a very slow rate.....for what seems like hours
6) If your lucky you will get ingame
7) If your unlucky you'll get a spinning cobra/sidewinder/<insert new gfx> here for an extended amount of time.
8) Enjoy but EXPECT bugs. Its a big release.
9) Keep calm, the devs will do what they can but remember its a game.

Top survival tips if things dont go to plan:

1) Stop, think, take a deep breath
2) Update you drivers
3) Check your firewall
4) Look in the forum for answers
5) Stop, think, take a deep breath
6) Remember the world has not ended and its a game
7) go outside look at the sun, look at your kids/wife/whatever is important to you....and remember its a game.
8) Raise a ticket, worst case

The devs work really hard on this game and its superb, give them some slack and they will fix any issues. Just dont expect god like powers to fix.

That said it may all go really well without a hitch. /fingerscrossed.
