Paid mods and paywalled modding sites have been a thing I've been aware of since at least the GTA San Andreas modding scene.
Which is something I find odd considering 99% of them have links to multiple payment sites on every mod page with messages about how to donate money to them because of the amount of work it takes.
Double standards ? There's nothing wrong with accepting donations. There's still unrestricted access to the mod, and it's entirely up to the user if they want to voluntarily reward the author. The other variant is an actual paywall, where you have to pay for the mod in order to use it. No try before you buy, nothing. I have nothing against paying or donating for mods, just the double standards
There's nothing wrong with accepting donations at all no. Requesting people donate on every page of your mods, and getting annoyed at people for plainly asking for money, is imo double standards.
If it’s Horse Armour then they can get stuffed, but for things like Fallout4 London, or the Luke Ross VR mod, they’re creators I’m quite happy throwing a few quid at.
