Beyond Ch.1 Beta opens January 25th on PC....

Can't help but compare this recent news or leaks to that of the folks involoved in making videos of NMS. The hype train is in motion and gaining speed. How soon some ps4 players have seem to forgtten what happen the last time we got an updated after pc had been given a beta version. Though it was supposedly great, we've spent the last few months, telling FDev it wasn't. Though PS4 doesn't refer to them as beta version, they do have trials versions, which is basicaly the same as the debate over; Potato vs potatoe or tomato vs tomatoe. Why can't we get such a version of ED.

IN addition, though I've read all the post in regards to the news, maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anything about engineering being changed.

... Why can't we get such a version of ED...

It'll be the same reason why most PS4 games don't get beta versions.

Sony will require a 'final' version of the client to go through bug testing and packaging before they will allow it to be published.
The Elite beta client would need to connect to a specific Elite backend Server instance, that would also need to undergo functionality and performance testing.

With the majority of the Elite game being back-end coding and config, connecting from either PC, Xbox or PS4 would be sufficient to test that it works.

There is a PC contingent that already use DS4 controllers or HOTAS' so the PS4 user input mechanics can be tested without the need for the PS4 userbase.

The only element that wouldn't be tested by non PS4 players would be the PS4 specific features. Any idea what those features are? They would be being tested by PS4 test rigs.

Without knowing the detail, I can see why neither the Xbox or PS4 community will see a beta. It wouldn't provide the sort of feedback the cost and outlay would justify.

(also how don't you know that there aren't PS4 Beta players out there... just because it isn't advertised...)

But putting all that aside momementarily, and acting like one of my grandkids, why can't we have a beta version regardless of what it's called. LOL, just kidding. Being serious, you provided great answers. Thanks.

Thats nice dear - but irrelevant to us...I still wouldn't expect to see the drop until end of march. As usual we will just be teased by the PC crowd....

An 8-weeks long Beta is unheard of. The worst that happened in the past -- i believe -- was about 5 weeks (and that was a closed beta = less beta testers). There's no reason to doubt that come February 25th or so, we will get the update too.

*Cough* Cobra Mk IV *Cough*

#prettyplease

From what i have read, countless times, the Cobra IV is a very disappointing ship. Yet Ps4 players keep asking for it. Why?
I genuinely want to know what's the interest in this ship. Is it simply because we don't have access to it or does it actually have a practical purpose counter to the negative critiques it's received in general.

Please take Cobra IV discussion here:

How long does the Beta phase usually lasts? I am eager to get my hands on the Chieftain

All guesswork, 5 to 8 weeks.

... here's to hoping that in late February (when we'll get the update) we'll also be blessed with some PS4-specific improvements! ;)

I'm hoping that when the update hits PS4 we won't have the same emergency patching that came with 2.4.

Did he say emergency patching?

Welcome to the PS4 beta, CMDRs!

We should be able to follow the pc beta on the beta forum like the last beta which I found handy to get an idea of what's on the way (including problems) especially engineering.

Just don't assume any problems reported in beta would be fixed for release as most of the 2.4 problems were reported on beta day one yet were still there in the final release including the crazy payouts fdev panic patched after a few days lol

I'm hoping they make engineering more conducive to the lay person, as well as adding the color availbity to the hud, and though it's been broght up before; A hutton mug bobble head. I'd add that a Snicker's Bar bobble head would be cool to, but maybe not to non Americans. LOL

i thought you didn't want the hutton orbital mug in your cockpit because of "Gravity" or the lack of it, you are very complex person nemo lol

Sorry, you must have gotten me mixed up with someone else. I'm one of the first to chime in when you first brought it up, in which I agreed fully. I've been on your side in this endevor since forever, well since launch anyways. If gravity was a problem and I know it wouldn't be, I'd simply install some velcro to the bottom. I wouldn't actually use it for drinking. I got a goat skin bag for that. But having it on my dash is a constant reminder to me of my first conquest. And inso much as my holographic hooker which at my age is only eye candy, was born there, it's a momento of her birth place.
