Patch Notes Update Beyond - Chapter Four 3.3 - Patch Notes

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why if you're going to implement a huge update on a particular date, you do it at midnight of that date so that most of the bugs will be worked out before the evening that day when most people will be playing. As opposed to Frontier who apparently thought it was logical to time it such that the bugs will be being worked out precisely at that time of day. Seriously, where is the logic of that?

It's probably best to update while everyone who works at Frontier is in the building.

Ummm ... let me guess .... "We value your time ... " ?

I am so happy that the game was down for 14 hours for me, refused to patch until I logged out of Steam completely, and 3 hours later I still can't even get in. First it wouldn't even let me connect to the server, but still let me log in, and now it's just failure to connect to adjudication servers. I'm seeing a weak link here. I'm also very much upset that after every single update the server load is always "unanticipated." I think y'all would have learned by now to prepare for this sort of thing. Game's down while selling the midnight black skins for Mamba and Phantom... boy that's nice.

Was looking very forward to taking of and trying out all the new features, but when I noticed Server Status: Issues Detected and "No Connection to the mission list" I didn't dare. Hope this gets fixed, otherwise there will probably be people opting out of DW2 & SWIRL2. I'm thinking this probably wouldn't be good as there are currently over 3500 commanders signed up and looking forward to Distant Worlds 2, me being one of them.

Geez Louise! DWE2 is a month away. Issues on patch day are normal. -EVERYBODY- is hammering the servers right now. Give it a couple of days for things to settle down and, if necessary, for FDev to make some tweaks. Although personally I'd have scheduled DWE2 for Feb or something; holidays are coming up, it's a BIG patch, there are bound to be some issues requiring a minor patch update. But not my call.

Anyway, just relax!

this is simply day release jitters, it's always been a little flakey during release day/evening - give it a day and things will settle down, patches will be issued in the coming days to fix issues cmdr's report. DW2 isnt until mid Jan anyway, the issues we're seeing today are simply teething issues we always get. No need to fret. :)

(and ninj'd by Micha :))

Suddenly it let me in starting ship launch and then no server connection and no login:eek:

Frontier, call Dr McKay!

Might be just as well to have everyone in the building when updating.... And at first peak demand after the update. Companies I've worked for in the past wouldn't even contemplate any update after December 1st until after the new year sales had finished.... (Wholesalers). And for very good reason.

Umm, have you ever heard of "time zones"? There is no appropriate time of day, bowing to one direction means mooning at the other.

And it doesn't strike you as odd that FDev is never prepared for server load on updates?

nahh... not really, I'll download, if it runs, great, if not, hey, it'll run tomorrow. I'm sure FD will have some very good reasons for the issues experienced, and lets face it, even the most trip A studios experience these type issues.

These kind of issues after deployment do not bother me that much. Even with the most rigorous planning unforeseen issues can always come up from the most unexpected areas. But with all updates I took a full video of my ships, cr, stats etc, yesterday evening. This was how I looked when I was managing 1500 netware trees back in the day with updates.

Wonderful...

I was one of the first who flew into Shinrarta Dezhra... Opened the system map - only 3 bodies scanned and mapped! "That's my chance to write my name into the history!" - I thought. But no - disconnect. Trying to log in again and again - no luck. Then finally I did it. Look at the system map again - some more bodies already scanned and mapped. "Well, ok, I still have a chance...". Choose some body, fly to it, mapped with probes... DISCONNECT! More 15 minutes of logging. "I'm ok, I'm cool, just relax, breath deeply..." Logged in again - and now almost all bodies scanned and mapped!! "Ok, I still can sell scan data at the station and put my name on that small rocky body!" Fly to the Jameson Memorial, exit the supercruise... GUESS WHAT NEXT! Of course... Another hundred attempts to log in, and when I finally did it and opened the system map - ALL BODIES ARE SCANNED AND MAPPED! Great! Amazing! I'm so happy, FDevs, that someone could fly, scan and sell data while I tried to log in and looked at that spinning ship model again and again... That's so cool!!! THANK YOU, FDEVS!

You announced this date... You had to prepare to this properly. But you didn't! Failed... Thank you again, dear FDevs, for a big portion of disapointment and wasted evening... Oh, and don't forget to make a hundreds more paintjobs and decals for "brand new ships"! It's more important than stability of game...

Have a good night.

Doesn't it strike you as odd that a company may not wish to spend a lot of extra money for a FREE update just to smooth over the couple-of-hours extreme spike which happens immediately after a release? Everybody whose been through this knows to just chillax and wait until tomorrow.. the galaxy will still be there you know!
