Big Elite Streamers Giving Up On Streaming Elite?

Personally I prefer the developer streams talking about the planetary tech or I would definitely watch streams about future plans for the game...... I also don't mind short news snippets like what OA does (despite the fact I don't always agree with him I do respect his view)

But as others have said I echo the fact that in general ED is not a good spectator game imo and is better played rather than watched.
. KatsPurr is a good example of an exciting Odyssey stream on Twitch, while Malic_VR is more in to Science and Lore.

Even Star Citizen and NMS has 2x viewership on Twitch right now. Something is going awfully wrong. The surviving Streamers should gather and discuss their plans for reviving Elite Dangerous on Twitch, else it will never get out of this slippery slope.
Each streamer is unique and has their own style and their own communities. Some like to put on a show, some are super-chill, some are more chatty and/or educational. They will appeal to different people, and at the end of the day, we can't force people to watch us. People come if they are curious and if they like the streamer they could come back regularly.

There are a few other factors that will affect viewers. Lockdowns are ending and people are going back to work, going on holiday etc. I was furloughed for the first 3 months of the year, so I could stream a lot then, now I'm back to work and can stream less.

Even so, I usually get at least one new player or someone interested in the game asking questions each stream, so the interest is there. They can see the game performing and I'll tell it as I see it.

So far, not entirely. OA with very negative (for OA), but he still loves the game. Exigeous said he likes odyssey, but is fully aware of all the issues, and think the roadmap is a joke. Not sure for The Pilot. D2EA have made a few jokes about the state of Odyssey in his poll, but doesn't seem to indicate he doesn't like the DLC.
Yamicks is Yamicks.

As a general genuine question- do streamers have an effect on sales? How effective are they?
Unknown. I've have some people saying they would buy the game after watching me play and answering questions. Those with a Frontier affiliate will be trackable by FD, who can no doubt tell how many units were bought through those affiliate links.

Only FD could answer that one, but it wouldn't include all streamers.

Yes massive.
Cohhcarnage was able to put a random indie game in the top 10 most bought game on steam for nearly a week, by simply playing it.
Quill 18 is the reason cities skyline had such a success.
Some popular japanese streamer made a video, and Kenshi became a sucess in japan, to the point the dev travelled there for a convention or something he was invited in.
Jacksepticeyes and Markiplier are the biggest reason behind Subnautica success

Fortnite was an unknown pve game, until some streamer played the pvp.

There is a reason why they are called influencer, and payed so much to play one's product.
They play the game,t heir audience talk about it/buy it. Others people learn about it, then talk around and spread the word. It's a snowball effect.

maybe Elite player like to play Elite instead of watching some stupid streamer.
Maybe youngsters should watch real tv show to educate them instead of that hip hop thing, it's only swear words !
Maybe youngster should listen to the radio instead of watching that stupid TV
Maybe youngster should read the newspaper instead of listening to that stupid radio

It's ok, you don't get it. People watch streamer like they watch sport on TV. Perhaps you should play soccer/football instead of watching it on tv ?

Valheim? If so, I don't think you can attribute the whole success to a single streamer. I also disagree about the sole significance of Quill in case of C:S.

The effect in reality is IMO a bit more complicated to calculate than that, but without doubt it is very tangible, no disagreement about that.

The CS devs (colossal order) literally said Quill was instrumental in the (unexpected) success. Like literally.
Valheim I don't know, so I didn't mention it.

Fair enough, but it made big waves in the city building community especially after the failure of Simcity 4 and was released by a big publisher (Paradox). I'm not of course at all surprised that they would give kudos to a significant promoter, but sounds a bit hyperbolic.

Which was the indie game referred?

Maybe he started the snowball ? That's what they do. They start the snowball effect. The rest is people's doing.

Exanima. he didn't know what to play for a few days, so he picked that one. It was a short lived popularity, but it boosted it to the top 10 for the week :D

Dunno, I guess the true effect is very hard to measure. In the end I think C:S is still after almost six years the sole quality city builder in existence, so the field itself certainly wasn't very competitive.

Ah, ok, never heard of it so can't comment. 🤷‍♂️
