Big Rant! Directed at ED dev team

I think I’m donewith this game!!! :( :( :(

I just finished having a play on elite dangerous. For a long time now, maybe half a year on and off I’ve tried to rank up so I can get the Imperial Cutter. Purely because I like the aesthetic look of it.
Looks like the white star from Babylon 5, my second most favourite ship of all time. The Enterprise A from the motion pictures is my dream ship. 3rd is the millennium falcon.
I’ve been flying the Anaconda, and I hate that ship! The only reason I use it is because it’s big and is a good all rounder. I didn’t need a rank to get it. Took me maybe a year on and off of playing to get it. But I hate it!!! It’s ugly, slow, a real pain to land. The bridge is ugly and I hate that nose!
I really don’t care for the user interface, in any of the ships. Flying the ship using voice attack made it a bit more fun because it felt like a massive ship that required attention. I gave commands rather than fly it like I fly the smaller fighters.
Flying the anaconda using a joystick and throttle and rudder pedals feels wrong. I keep trying to fly it like a fighter because of my x52 pro. But the anaconda is so big it feels like I should be using a yoke to fly it instead.
You can get cars with HUD’s now and interfaces, including voice interaction and touch screens. This is real life. Yet I get stuck with a ship that has the same boring HUD and interface with no ability to customize it.
That anaconda is hundreds of millions of credit, yet I can’t changed the colour of the display. I have to use a third party program that changes the entire overlay. Not individual elements of the HUD. For Shame, I say! For shame :(

I don’t enjoy playing elite dangerous any more! I’m bored fed up with the grind. Sick and tired of a lifeless stagnant void. Sick of the missions. Tried mining, took far too long to get anything. Ship to ship combat is old and boring. It’s either a breeze or you get blow away before you realise you’re in trouble. Trading is boring and impossible to really find good trade routes. And doing naughty things has no real effect on how factions or governments respond to the players actions.

Frontier! You have taken far too long getting the things in the game implemented that the players want.

We should have been able to land on planets with atmospheres from the start. I can’t even land on the moon in SOL. I have a friend who stopped playing this game when we found that out. Because it was such a massive let down. Completely unacceptable! Out of all the systems we should be able to explore the most it should be SOL our home! I should be able to land at the moon landing sights and see the lander and marks left by the astronauts.

I’m fed up of sitting in the caps chair, slowly trudging from one place to another.
Frontier have to get the avatars working and they need to do far more than just be there.
We need to be able to walk about.
I’m sick of doing the same boring missions. I’m sick of reading tones of text.
I want 3rd person view of my ship, so I can’t appreciate it. I think the anaconda has some moving part, but I don’t know because I never seen them move.

I heard frontier are planning on making an audio thing for galnet. Waste of time. I don’t pay any attention to galnet because none of the news really has an effect on my game. I don’t want an audio recording telling things. I want a video broadcast. I want to see the faces of the broad casters talking in Elite! How hard is it to have a little pop up window with the person speaking to me, like in Freelancer. “That’s the only example I can think of atm” but I know that's been done in other games. And it at least adds a level of immersion. How about you get some of your developers to become the faces of galnet. Live broadcast for the big important news updates, done in the style fo real news broadcasts. It would get the play base invested in them as real people. How about small radio stations within system.

Think about in real life when you’ve driven cross country or something, and the radio fades out from one radio station to another. You go from hard rock to a Christian radio station or something.
ATM im tuning into Radio Side Winder, would love to see those guys get a real place in the elite universe.
Interaction and immersion. That's the words! Interaction and immersion!!! There isn’t any in this game.
When I drop off passengers at there destination, I want to hear and see the passengers getting off. Like a little gantry way attaching to the ship, to at least give the impression, there were people on my ship. When I off load cargo, how about seeing the cargo get taken off the ship. I don’t care if it takes a bit of time for the animation to happen, because it gives me the impression something is happening. Plus I'll be planning the next route or looking at the stations prices.

Most of us saw the Star Citizen podcast. And I don’t know about the rest of you, But OMG!!!!!! Frontier, if you don’t pull you’re fingers out, this game is dead!!!!
And you know what,,,I don’t want that.

Star Citizen is going to be the Star Wars of the space games. It’s going to be rock and roll, not much detail on space and the potential and unknown of what’s out there, no it’s going to be,, shoot shoot shoot, wow look at those graphic, wow look at the city planet and all that, wow I just got this new gun, look at the hit points. OMG I can space walk. OMG speeder bikes. Someone nicked my ship! Wow looks at the endless city, with very little to do. It’s going to have the obvious stuff that makes it’s fan base scream like a bunch of overzealous fanboys. But it’s not going to explain or look into space phenomenon and the unknown. It’s going to be a PC version of Mass Effect. But at least I’ll be able to shoot first person, and walk about city and stations and ships. Admiring the sights, life and culture of that place.

Elite dangerous is the Star Trek / Babylon 5 of the spaces games. The Mysteries of space, the unknown, pushing deep into the void. What’s out there, the possibilities. The ambiance and sheer vastness of the dark void. Humanities endeavor to expand and learn. To evolve, and change depending where they are and what they encounter. To find our place in the universe. And as individuals to find or make our future, in a sea of endless stars.

Elite dangerous comes across as, second star to the right and straight on till morning. I think SC is going to be a mix of mass effect and no mans sky.

The power play thing is an example of this. The politics of a space age civilization. Mighty civilizations light years apart fighting for dominance, while at the same time having to keep a level of stability, and peace. Because no one wants all out war, as it destroys everything. Unless it’s a mighty power against a weak power, in which case it’s a wipe out for the weak party. Powerful people struggling and plotting.

The thargoids and how they have slowly appeared, an alien races we know little about, that seems to want us dead. Like the shadows from B5. All the space stations that look like Babylon 5, well they look like the Babylon stations, which is something I love about this game.
The mystery of the alien ruins, very treky :)

Problem is. I really don’t care about the power play politics or the governments with in the different solar systems. Because it has no effect on the game, and we as players can’t tell what effect it has. Make a video of Zackery Hudson giving a speech like a near tyrant, Zackery totally looks like he would be a Trump. Or a broadcast showing the horrific things that can happen on a station that is in anarchy. Riots, fights, murders, explosion, sabotage of the landing pad, which means I can’t leave until the pad is fixed. Mass shootings of imperial slaves. Don’t beat about the bush. Think about it. Elite dangerous is a niche game. An average 12 year old, won’t appreciate this game. But older more grown up people do play this game. We have the patience and the imagination for this game. Plus you have the fan base that played the original games. We are science fiction fans. We all want to have space ships and leave earth to see what’s out there, or to make our own future in the galaxy. We’re grown ups, don’t hold back, because you’re worried about upsetting someone, or because you think we can’t handle it. Kids who play mind craft couldn’t handle mass killings and slavery. This community can handle it, and some players would like it.
The empire looks like the type of empire that would genocide an entire planet just for profit. Show it.

When I dock at a station that is in anarchy, I can’t tell because it not much different from a station that booming. There should be visible unrest. Riots, explosions, Armed guard every where, people trying to get to your ship to get out of the station. Half the station facilities should be shut down. Fires and turmoil. Trigger happy police.
If a station is booming. There should be lots people walking around, lots of traffic and movement with in the station. Bustling, vibrant, alive. Colourful, full of energy and commerce.

No more text comms!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t stress this enough. I’m dyslexic, reading isn’t the easiest thing for me. I can read but I describe it like a fat person having to run. I can do it, but I hate and it’s a bother for me. If I get scanned by the police and I’m wanted or something. I want a direct call from that police pilot. Ordering to hold position or he’ll open fire. Because I don’t ever notice that text in the upper left until I’m out of danger, when I have the time to read it at my leisure.

How many games have you played where they used text, and you missed something important because you were busy doing something else and didn't notice it. You don’t have that problem when it’s an audio and visual comms direct to you the player.

A space ship that can traverse the galaxy, but can’t make a direct call and video chat with the pilots. BBBBOOOOO!!!!!

One time I was travelling the deep space region outside of the bubble. I came across a ship that had run out of fuel. I saw the text. “Please help, I’m out of fuel,,,Please help I don’t want to die, Oh god please help”.
I didn’t care, it was just something different so I stayed to see how it played out. Ship blew up for some reason. Now imagine, an actual comms channel got opened, which you couldn’t close. And frontier got a talented voice artist to make a heart churning plea, that you can’t ignore, that is so loud you can’t block it or ignore it. No Matter how far away you traveled from the ship. Directly calling to you, blaming you, cursing you. I guarantee you that would have an emotional impact on me. Not much but at least something. Enough to have some brevity to the cry for help.

The Stations I would like to have at least some areas to visit. I’m sick of landing pad, and hanger, with no where to go. Give us a bar, market, shops. How about a little food market like in blade runner. I want to be able to meet people in the world and actually talk to them. I’m sick of a still mugshot of the person. I want to see them move and talk directly to me. I’m sick of text telling me, “good job commander” I want them to say it to my characters face. Also maybe I would get attached to a specific character. A trader, or merchant. Politicians dock workers, control tower operators. Friends and faction. List goes on.

I just realized, Fallout, the original fallout. They used the pop up windows with a semi motion face of the person, Frontier that’s all you need to do atm. Make a few different ones,,, hang on what am I taking about, You surely can make an algorithm which takes the mugshots of the pictures of the characters you’ve already made, and simply move the lips mouth, and eyes. The same type of animation used for making cartoons in after effects. Face is static. But the eyes and mouth are the animated areas. Cuts down on the work load. When I get a mission you lot made pictures of the person I’m getting the mission from. Those pictures use them. You’ve already made them.
You made a realistic sized Milky way galaxy, come on that seems like monkey work compared to the universe you created.

I get that the star of elite dangerous is the galaxy. The suns, planets, the scale of the galaxy and how far the planets are from the sun. How long it takes travelling from the hub the colonia. But it’s not enough.

I have no home. By that I mean, the ship isn’t the home, because I’m stuck in the chair. Can’t go to the galley and make a sandwich, or go to the captains quarters to sleep in my bed on my ship, or even check on the state of my engines. I have the same thing with the stations. I have no investment in anywhere. I can’t invest in a station. I can’t explore the station.

No! it’s land drop off cargo or complete mission objectives, then get a new mission and leave. Every station is the same to me.
I’m just wandering about, with no goal!!!!!!!!! There’s no goal Frontier!!!! What’s the goal to explore? Every where looks the same, and I can’t get a gage on what the populous of the places are like. I’m sick of landing on moons, that are barren. And the information we have on the planets and moons are total unless and not very in-depth.

The star of the game isn’t the galaxy, the ships or the planets, because there barren. There isn’t enough substance to any of it.

The star of the game should be the player, and what they want to achieve in the game. I can’t achieve anything because there isn’t anything to achieve. I’m not a trader, merchant, rogue, pirate, Baron or pilot. I’m a Baron rank for the empire, but no one gives me landing priority, or treats me better than let’s say a small merchant trader. If I’m docking in a station, in my anaconda, I don’t want to hear to comms tower tell me to give way to on coming traffic. I’m a baron and I’ve done a lot for the empire, purely to get a ship, but I should feel like I’m treated like a valued member of the empire. Not just another pilot coming in to land. Little things like that go a long way in creating the immersion for the players.

I’ve played for 887 hours, which is probably pittance compared to other players.
By this point I should have the ship I really like, which I blinged up with the paint job I want and the internal decor I want. I only got the priest atm. I want Christmas lights along my cockpit. Maybe a disco ball somewhere. A cassette deck, radio station selectors. I should be able to invest in my own space station or planet, make my own home and design and decorate it how I want, and make it what I want. An outpost or a mega corporation completing with another corporation in the local system. Would give me a good reason to sabotage there corporation, so mine gets bigger and stronger. And I the player should have a direct effect on the galaxy. Employ mercenaries to do the dirty work, or I can do it myself.

It’s not enough to just wandering about doing a mission here and there, just to earn enough credits for ,,,,,,,,,what a bigger ship that wont’ really make a difference on my game. I’ll have the same boring weapons, with the same boring animations and effects. I can’t enjoy the ship, because I’m stuck in the chair. All I get are larger compartments and more powerful weapons and tech. But I can do the same things as before. So there’s no real difference between the ships. Just load out travel distance and armament and defence.

I’m so bored of this game now I don’t care the thargoids have turned up, because guess what frontier. I don’t want to get into a fight with an alien and get blow to bits. Especially when it’s taken me years to rank and earn enough to get that ship only to have it blow away, and then have to grind to buy another. I want to meet an alien, try to communicate and exchange info, locations, materials, knowledge. I want to make friends with aliens. Not have a war with them. What was the name of that child alien the enterprise encounter from the original series, who just wanted to talk, but used that scary alien chair as a test. Mailok or something I forget. Point being. I’m sick of space games where every alien wants to kill me. I didn’t like mass effect but at least there very variety with the species.

Hailing frequencies open,,,,,NOT. I can barely communicate with pilots flying around the stations I visit. Has anyone tried to communicate with the thargoids?

The grind is to too much!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally reach the rank of Baron, in the game. Thinking finally I can get the Cutter, NOPE. Need to be duke or higher. Was a massive let down. I forgot the rank, thinking it was Baron. I exited the game, feeling like I had wasted my evening. I hadn’t accomplished anything. And now I’m writing this rant.
So far my goal has been to get the next ship, because in previous games that's really the only goal. Until you’re OP and can do what you want. But that’s not elite, so What am I doing? Why bother going to Colonia, it’s the same thing over there that I do in the bubble. I reckon I wont see any impact I make on the bubble or colonia.

Things like factions and power plays and good and evil choices are newish in the games world. That stuff has only really turned up because of games like mass effect. You’ve got the good and evil thing that games are trying to implant, but it’s doesn’t work in elite.

In Freelancer, you could be a pirate, once you completed the game, and it had a real effect on your game. You couldn’t land in any of the legit stations, because you were classed as a criminal. But the pirate bases had rubbish stuff, so there was a pay off for being good. You can land at the places that have the best stuff. In elite dangerous if you get a bounty on your head You go to another system, either pay off the fines or avoid the place for a while. Where are the pirates bases, that can’t be found unless you know where to go or who to speak to.

Also I think of Dune every time I hear the word Baron. “He who controls the spice, controls the universe”. In Freelancer we got the Outcasts, from the planet Malta, they became dependent on a drug called Cardamine, which grew on the planet they landed and got stuck on and became dependent on it. If they didn’t get it they died. The pros of the drug was that it extended the life span of the Outcasts. One of the stories was they chief engineer who made the ships was over a thousand years old, and so had immense knowledge of ships and that's why the outcast had such good ships and weapons. Why can’t there be a system with that sort of problem. A planet where the ecology changes people if they stay on it too long. Or a planet that produces a substance that can only be found on that planet. If there is a place like this in elite I don’t know about it because there’s only galnet, and you can only have so much on one news site.

I have to use a third party app to get information on trade pricing and where I can buy certain materials, TCE MK2. Which I haven’t used in ages. Why isn’t there something already in the game. We already have it in real life. The stock markets and other trade bodies.
Maybe make a service that does this, but you have to use in game currency to use it. Like a subscription to it.

There’s no depth to anything. I don’t see the slaves in the empire. I don’t see the civil unrest in system that are in a state of anarchy. If I get shot at. I don’t want a text message. I want someone, calling me on comms and give me a verbal threat. Which will make me angry and make me want to blow them out the void. ATM I don’t even look at the text from the pilot who just dragged me out of hyper space, or whatever it’s called, telling me drop my cargo. I look to see if they are wanted. If they are I just get my guns out, put the anaconda in reverse and shoot till they are gone, then retract the weapons and continue on my way. I don’t even bother checking what they dropped. Since I wont get anything interesting. And if it is needed for the engineers, I wont know because I’m going to read a bunch of text explaining these things. I have no emotion to wants happening. Either anger, glory, fun or amusement. It’s hollow and stagnant!

Frontier, please. Bring this universe to life. I don’t care about the Thargoids, but I really got invested in the alien ruins, because I hoped they would be a friendly alien race. That was a star trek move and I would like more things like that. The unexpected, and the mystery, could they still be out there. What do they look like, how do they sound. What are they're ideas, beliefs, life style, food drink, drugs, sex, Hair style.
The Thargoids mystery is already gone. They are an alien races, they attack us and they are far more powerful than us. Okay I’ll stay away. It’s taken me a very long time to earn enough to get the anaconda and even though I don't like it. I don’t want it blow apart.

Take some inspiration from science fiction, we don’t know what's out in space. We can only observe what we see with the technology we have at this time. The Hubble space telescope, and a number of satellites that LOOK into the void.
How about some tiny nebulars around an asteroid field.
On earth beyond visual ranger is 10 miles, at least that what I heard. Now yes we have an atmosphere which will reduce visual distance, which you won’t get in space. But space is so big, how would we know there isn’t a nebular that is, let’s say half the size of a tiny moon. You probably wouldn't see it until you were right on top of it. A field of frozen particles that are so dense it’s nearly opaque, which leaves your shields inoperable. So flying through the field is dangerous already. Great hiding place.
You’ve finally made asteroid stations, which I have yet to see. About time frontier!!!!!!!

You make a ship that has a power source that can traverse the galaxy. That power source can power some pretty powerful sensor.

The scan that we do when entering a new system, is very basic. The scanning of planets is basic. Please make it more complex and interesting.

When I went looking for the alien ruins I spent hours flying around a planet trying to find it.
You made all these crazy symbols and clues as to the location. Thank god we have some incredibly intelligent players in this community who managed to track them down and then alert the rest of us where they were. To those players I give a massive thank you, and they should get stations named after them, for that feet.

Why can’t we have sensor that can pin point these structures. Make it so we have to manually use them to find things but it gives us players something interesting to do. Detecting an energy source sort of thing.

I get more enjoyment these days watching Obsidian Ants videos then actually playing this game. I learn more about the universe. I get to see things. He brings a story to this game, or at least explains it. After watching his vids I get the urge to play elite, and then after about 15 mins I start wandering why I play this any more.
When I'm playing I’m grinding for the next best ship, because I’m not satisfied yet. The Python is the best so far. Love that interior. When I’m wandering about the moons Im always hoping to find something alien or unexplained. Fed up with finding downed satellites and an out post somewhere. With no explanation as to what it’s there for or what happening within it’s walls.
I’ve been spending all my time just trying to earn enough to get the ship I want rather than playing the game. And ironically the times I get the most enjoyment is flying or driving around a planet, because I’m always thinking what will I find.

What do I find! Rocks! broken satellites that are guarded somehow. For god sake frontier! Why is there a crashed satellites seemingly left to rot on a moon, yet the owners decided to put automated hover guards in its location. Those drones don’t look like they can traverse the void, how did they get there. What those drones were part of the satellite :( If the owners put some guards there, why didn’t they just recover it. It doesn’t make sense frontier, that satellite cost a lot and the owners are going to leave it there, but drop off some guards. Come on, think about it please. If it’s crashed and the owners don’t know where it is, then surely it would be alone. No guards or zone I shouldn’t go in.
Seriously bruv :( WHY FRONTER, WHY!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s like those movies where some one does something stupid, leaving you the viewer screaming at the TV shouting WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT, ARE YOU STUPID!!! Why are the characters doing that, to move the rubbish story along, no sense, nope just to move the story along. That’s what you lot are doing. You’re not trying to flesh out the story or flesh out the universe. You’re making tacky skins for the ships just to squeeze out some money from the players. You’re investing time and money in things that aren’t thought through properly. You are forgetting all the science fiction ideas that might have some merit, or can be adapted to the game. There are only a handful of ships, all the moons look the same. You got rid of okay ideas that might not be 100% realistic but really effected the game play for the better and the look of the game. You lot have been spending more time on pointless things that just don’t make sense than creating a coherent universe. With lot’s of things we can do, or even things we can effect and change.

Well Star citizen is getting closer to what we the investors want. If you don’t get it together. Elite dangerous will be a mediocre game that will die quickly and be forgotten. :( :( :( :( Seriously SAD faces friends.

Some of things I love about this game is that I’m flying around the milky way, you named some places after science fictions characters places, or events. You clearly are science fiction fans like us. So why are you ignoring the possibilities and potential story and ideas from all the science fiction over the years.
The list of purchasable ships is tiny. The HUD is so lame. I would get the community to come up with ideas for a new better HUD and interface. Or give us an option to swap and switch it up as we want.

Why did you get rid of the icy atmospheres around the ice planets? That was so cool, almost ice cold cool hehe. Seriously that haze made those planets alive. There stark and barren, even a little mist or haze or dust cloud brings those terrestrial bodies to life. The only time they look good now is when the sun is setting.

I’m very picky with the games I play these days, because I feel playing games like mass effect, fallout, mario, mind craft is a massive waste of my time. I’m not learning anything, I’m not testing my abilities, the enjoyment goes after a short time and most of all, I play games that replicate things in real life I’ll be able to do. If I want a real challenge, I could take up the cello, or learn a language. I play games to have fun, mostly. If I learn something or sharpen a skill, even better.
I play things like DCS “digital combat simulator”, “The hunter call of the wild”, “X plane”. I started playing Elite and fell for it straight away, it was the closest there was to flying about in space, that had the game play parts that made playing this game worth it. At the time I accepted that Elite is a bit shallow, But I told myself you lot would improve it and expand on it. You started to with Horizons But you have wasted the players time, wasted time on things we the fans don’t want. You’ve taking things away that made the game more deep.
This game is just a frustrating grind that goes no where, and you’ve got some insanely hard competition coming just over the horizon. I truly hope the next big update, is a true update. Atmospheres, planetary landing, and not a cut scene. I want to fly through the clouds turn and stop if I choice to to admire the view. Voices and talking. More ships. Bigger is not always better. Private or pirate bases that you can only find if you know where to look. Science fiction story and scenarios. Things that make us go “wow” Televised transmission. Radios and broad cast stations. Useful loot drops from ships we destroy. A tractor beam, or limpets that don’t break after a few uses.
A scanner that doesn’t take up a slot I could use for something else. You don’t see f-15’s and SU-33’s get those radars put in after they get deployed.

Why would you make a ship that doesn’t come with basic equipment, which the pilot needs to choice to install.
That's bad movie writing moves.
The game play feels out of date, or at least old, like 2014 old.
Different propulsion systems weapons, sensors.
Photon torpedoes, and an equivalent sound. There’s just something about pulling the trigger, and watching your weapon travel to the target.
A new SRV please.
One button to launch the fighter and recall it. Can’t stand toggling to a user interface and scroll through a bunch of options just to launch that fighter and then tell it to come back.
Andriods, I really want my own Data, who does the science scans. Or a human. I got two seats on my bridges. Feeling all alone on that bridge.
More aliens both friendly and angry.
Have the species that made the ruins turn up as the thargoids really turn up the heat, and we discover they are from the Andromeda galaxy, which i see in the back ground of the galaxy map. How trippy and humbling would that be. To discover an alien race that takes the same time it takes us to get to the centre of the galaxy, in that time they can travel from Andromeda to the milky way.

Finally, I know this has been a big fan boy rant, and if you’ve got to this point thank you for reading this far. I’ve never had a rant like this before, for any game. The fact I’m making this rant is because elite dangerous is a special game to me. It has potential and I don’t want it to go the same route as other games.
Also sorry for any spelling or grammatical mistakes, I stayed up all night writing this, in one go, and have a geeky compulsion to finish it and get it up on the boards.
Best regards AW

omigosh, what a long and fun rant. The enterprise-refit from it's reveal in the first trek movie in the 70's is my favorite too. The cutter is totally worth it, so please don't give up on it yet. I do most everything in it now.

You can't be serious about SC. I hope you're joking, it's become a long multi-year ponzi selling "dream"ware and jpegs. Smart's forum has a lot of details why the sc project is defunct. Otherwise, ED is the best there is currently for the niche genre. Sure it could be better, but it'll just take time for them to get it better. They might even be working on it 15 more years.

Elite 3: FFE had video files of npc's at the stations. Amusing if you want to see how they did it back then:
download file ("ffevid.zip") on this page: http://www.ffeartpage.com/utility.htm#tag8

Putting my old work hat on I'd be looking at a 20-30 year project to get everything you want in the game...

One thing though, the Moon or Luna is not a land-able body for a reason. It is inhabited. Read up on the lore and you'll understand why.

Wow - long narrative and each to their own. Personally I love the game and the grind is a way to escape my normal life. I'm sure FD are working on stuff but after watching the Stellar Forge video I can appreciate how complicated this game is and updates take time. Good luck commander and hope you reconsider your wish to leave.

I doubt star citizen will kill of ED. SC won't be released probably for at best another three years or so. Also some of the design decisions look like an epic fail (qunatum travel). Personally I would reserve judgement on SC until it gets released, which could be a long wait. If it looks good, I will get it, but I doubt I will stop playing ED. Very different games that have a very different direction.

Do you expect FD to read that?

You could have unlocked the Cutter by the time you wrote that post. :D

The Anaconda is awesome. The Cutter is a drifty monstrosity of a trade ship. :p

From my skimming of your post, you seem to be saying "I want the Cutter now", "game is dead" and "SC is better".

Unlocking the Cutter requires the same effort as everyone else. Money is basically thrown at you now.
The game is also far from dead. It's thriving in fact.
And Star Citizen isn't any closer to release.

Money and military rank can be found in many places in abundance.

I chose to take the slow and steady route to my Corvette. And enjoyed most of it. But the last few % got me down, so I just did a shed load of data deliveries, and bam, done in a few hours. It was dull, but got the job done.
I now own a Corvette.
Which I don't like. Lol

I'm not even attempting to unlock the Cutter. Uurgghh. I couldn't deal with the Clipper, so I'll stick with my trusty Anaconda.

CMDR Cosmic Spacehead

Agreed. And for me the only time I will be getting a big ship is when I can populate it with some NPC crew that we can see with some proper crew management. With those ships I want to feel like a captain of a ship giving orders.

To be honest I haven't read it all, too long [big grin]

But I agree on several aspects. Especially when we look at older games we actually had more than what we have now.
Now we have a deeper background for the main story, lots of minor functions (many of us don't even know them all or we use only a small percentage in our gameplay) but on the other hand a lot of basic stuff has been skipped.

I agree when you say you should have had atmo landing since the beginning. It was there in Elite II why it's not in now? That's a step back in game development.
Did they forgot how to do it? Just put a basic mechanic and make it more accurate with later DLC.
One of the most viewed videos on youtube about Elite Dangerous, before release, was the one published by a guy showing that it was not possible to land on a planet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_URBqfP73ms

When Horizons were released a lot of players were surprised that it was possible to land only on barren moons.

Also concerning animations.. I think this is the only AAA priced game released in the last 10 years without animations or animated charachters. Even at starports service they are just a picture.
It's incredible how such important details in this game have been completely skipped and forgot.

Braben is supposed to be on of the most experienced game designer/developer, how can he be content with so little?
It looks like they can't have more then X feature in a game. So if in the next game release you want one different feature more you need first to remove an old one.

But on the other side we have Star Citizen with Chris Robert, he doesn't want to stop the development and keep adding useless stuff because he found out that he can gain more money keeping the game in alpha rather than releasing a gold edition.

Really weird!

Dude, that's one hell of a rant, and to be honest, I think it is best you move on.

I will pick up on two points though, that mean i wasn't going to bother reading the rest of it:

Frontier! You have taken far too long getting the things in the game implemented that the players want.

Never ever presume to speak for me or the whole of the player base. Strike one.

We should have been able to land on planets with atmospheres from the start.

Sure, if you were willing to wait for release another few years and FD to not work on other things in the meantime, meaning on release there would have been less of other stuff, and different people saying other things should have been in the game on launch, and how they are quitting playing because FD are taking too long to implement what they want. Strike 2.

No need for strike 3, those two were more than enough.

I suggest you go wait for Star Citizen, available with everything you want... in 2050.

Putting my old work hat on I'd be looking at a 20-30 year project to get everything you want in the game...

One thing though, the Moon or Luna is not a land-able body for a reason. It is inhabited. Read up on the lore and you'll understand why.

Mercury is inhabited as well and I can land there.

I really really don't know how to respond to this..... i can only do it with an image.

Rep to you for the effort alone...I don't think my last college turn-in was this long.

That out of the way, I agree with quite a lot of it actually. ED does have a built in mini-game of patience as it is developed on a glacial pace. I personally rotate the game with a couple other MMOs to keep all of them fresh. I am approaching the next break from this game since the Thargoids I came back for has been largely meh. So, off to one of the other 2 games I play for a few months or till tired of them again and the wheel spins again.

If you bothered to write this much, you care more about the game than your angst would suggest. My advice, rotate out for a few months and come back fresh.

Why do people feel the need to urinate (read that as its more profane variant) on other people's posts? OP had lots of things to get off his chest, many of which I totally agree with, some dead on the money. Personally, I'm still at the point where I'm trying to get the most fun out of this game, but I can see the boredom putting me away from it as a completely non-impossible future outcome.

He is absoloutely allowed to post his opinions. Likewise, other people are allowed to post their disagreement with those opinions. As long as people don't break the forum rules, its good.
