Game Discussions Big Rimworld Update

Yep, I had just started an ONI run when the Rimworld DLC lured me to try out. Remarkable insights this time were: Wow, Hatch farming really yields a lot of eggs - Hey, wait a moment - where is all the dirt gone!? I was aiming for some volcano shenanigans. Thing is I play mostly to mid/ early late game and then start a new map. Often it's the layout bothering me, heat problems (tho with hatch farming that shouldn't be a thing ever again, or just interest trying new map). I never got to the space stage, but that's fine - I enjoy ONI as it is.
I had often considered it, read some reviews on Steam and held off always. Then I played Rimworld and was "More like this please" and got ONI and it blew me away how good it was.
Heh... i played Don't Starve, then got ONI, and couldn't make head or tails of the controls... like... "how do i dig??? Why can't i control my dupes?" and left it there.

Then my mates suggested rimworld, and it's tutorial just seemed to hit me more... played it heaps, then went back to ONI eventually and it all made sense. Likewise, not got to space biome, i keep snagging on making a SPOM or getting to the oil biome... never really gone past cycle 150.

That said, royalty has usurped ONI for now :)

Environmental suit is THE milestone to breach starting biome and go all the places you want. Reed fiber for that. I largely ignored farming, but I really notched it up this time. Dreckos give reed fiber and plastic. For the standard drecko consider balm lily in chlorine (below) / hydrogen (above) room since they dont take any labour.
First time utilising the shipping systems - set up a shroom farm and automated the slime delivery. It takes a lot of space, but in the end what is the most crucial currency in these games? Labour - and in Rimworld it feels even more a rare commodity in the early stages. (Looking at all the uncleaned rooms here).

Well, and the SPOM for "fueling" the space suits, of course. There's a couple of designs out there, but the principle is always the same - just the execution is different: Hydrogen is captured up top oxygen is included down below. The rest is fluff. Like filtering. I made myself familiar with mechanical filters this time (prime little loop with 0.1 g of gas and no other type of gas can enter there. Link up a line and it'll effectively filter out the gas type you primed it with.)

Oh yeah, I've seen all the designs. I just booch it all the time XD

Have you tried Oxygen Not Included? I call it a hybrid of rimworld and factorio... by the makers of Don't Starve. Basic mechanics are much like rimworld, but less focus on combat/ social relations and more on complex automation.

E.g common problems in ONI are "How do i set up a balanced oxygen generation and deal with the excess heat generated" or "How do i create a self sustaining toilet" rather than.... well... whatever rimworld problems you have.

Looked amazing to me. Read on it and researched it for a couple months and looked right up my alley. Refunded, turns out having it side scroller just wasn't for me. I just couldn't get into it.
