Big ship/God ship woes

I own an Anaconda but only really use it for deep space exploration or if I need to cross the bubble to engineer another ship. I have a Clipper, but only use it when I need to earn some quick cash. The 2 ships I fly the most are the iCourier and the FAS. they are my mission runners. If I want fight stuff, I'll xfer the FDL to a nearby station, but outside of that, I'm always in the iCourier or FAS. I'd say 80% of the time in those 2 ships.

I started the game in a Cobra at the original launch thanks to Kickstarter founder status.
I got enough cash to move on to a type 6 and after that have never gone back down below the medium ships. The FDL would be the smallest ship I've flown the last 2 years.

But I decided to do some mission running last night and got myself an iCourier. Engineered it a bit and its the best fun I've had in a while.
Power sliding sideways through the mail slot, letting ships interdict and then just boosting off and watching them instantly fall away ... its all been great fun !
Wish I had of done it sooner!

Icourier is like a slf on steroids. Perfect if you have a wing mate in a large combat ship

I've always been a big ship pilot (7 Anaconda's on two accounts) and never thought about small ships much. Lately I've been working on my combat rank on my 2nd CMDR to get access to Lori Jameson but found combat really boring, so decided to try out something smaller.

I had enough spare engineered parts and materials lying around to build a Vulture, and it's seriously good fun! I'm now taking on pirate lord assassination missions and destroying Elite Corvettes without taking any damage at all (except that bugged mission where it spawned two of them, that was an interesting fight!)

My favourite new toy

Looks like we're back with the Vulture folks, it is as fun as I remember it. Fighter/Bounty Hunter - Until the patch drops the scoop gets switched in and out with cargo rack as needed, can also switch it out to a planetary hangar as needed. Obviously it's not as fun DPS wise, but the agility is stellar, I can punch above my weight and if I mess up I take a lot of damage with the possibility of blowing up. Rolls could be better, but they are good enough, and I think I'd prefer efficient Plasmas, but I don't feel like unlocking Bill Turner to get the most out of it.

Will try out the Chieftain next to see how much I like that and if not, well, there's always the FAS or FGS for my medium ship fun. I could also go FDL, but last time I ran one it felt nearly as invincible as my Cutter.

The only issue with the Vulture is that it only has two guns, so the depth of play isn't really there for fun mixed damage-type builds. I'm hoping that the Chieftain can fill this slot in a way that the FAS couldn't quite do with it's awkwardly placed hardpoints. Still, the Vulture is pretty damn fun with an APA build in PVP.

The Vulture's hardpoints are a good example of the limitations of smaller ships that ones with more 'slots' generally can overcome. But the Vulture like other small ships is cheap enough to own several, each specialised for a role. I have (IIRC) a CZ Vulture that's solid hull reinforcements with a fixed beam & cannon, and a 'bumming about' one with a pair of pulse lasers, KWS, scoop etc. I only own one Corvette, it can do both roles but isn't as much fun for either.
