Big TV or multiple monitors

Really as the title states.

I have got a new PC built for ED but i dont yet have a monitor setup.

Do people think i'd be better to buy 2/3 monitors or just go for a 46" led tv??

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they've ever confirmed multiple monitor support. The last quote I remember (2/9/2013) was uncertain -

... I'm not sure on whether or not we're supporting multiple monitors for rendering the cockpit across three monitors for example though.

Anyway, go for an Oculus Rift (if an HD version comes out soon enough)! :)

Like others on here, I'd like to try OR before buying one. Given your options above, I would go for a central 46" LED/LCD TV with two smaller monitors on either side...

Then you have both :D

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Probably try the OR. Failing that, I'd go with one big boy rather than multiples.

I was going to go for the big TV and a PC. But with Oculus Rift in the mix, I'm thinking, make do with what I've got until the Rift comes out and then just buy a hi-spec laptop.
I can probably get the Rift and a Laptop for what a decent TV would cost

Monitors, since a TV (unless you're going to really splash out on a 4k) has terrible resolution at only 1080p.

If FD do it right (no reason to suggest they won't) then the big beast would be used for the Primary view and console view and then a pair of monitors either side for other bits and pieces and perhaps side views?

Sure, but you still get less on screen on a 1920x1080 screen compared to a 2560x1440 monitor. The primary and console is still going to show you less information (albeit larger) on a 46" TV compared to a 27" or 30" monitor.

The full quote of what I posted above was

We have no plans to implement any sort of MFD placement feature in the way you describe. The MFDs we do have are fixed in their location within the cockpit geometry (which you can't toggle off btw so you're only going to be able to see these MFDs if your looking front and centre out of your ship. I'm not sure on whether or not we're supporting multiple monitors for rendering the cockpit across three monitors for example though.

There's two ways of using multiple monitors.

Either as independent monitors which would require Elite to support opening new views and assigning them or dragging them to additional monitors; this seems less likely at first.

Then there's configuring multiple monitors as a single display, Nvidia Surround or AMD Eyefinity, which would be seen by the game as a single high resolution monitor; 5760 x 1080 for example.

It would be very strange if Elite did not support the Surround/Eyefinity mode thereby giving those that have such a setup a wider field of view. There are also Ultra-Wide monitors, 2560 x 1080 which some may have.
