Billionaire Bubble Jump

This for all intensive purposes is a money making scheme, not really exploration, as the furthest you will be from civilisation will be a couple of hundred light years, so this is why i've initially posted it in the Dangerous Discussion forum and not in the Explorers section.

This is probably the most effective, non exploit way to make money since the 2.3 patch dropped.

lets look at some numbers…
Terra-formable Water World’s are worth 690K per scan
Earth Like World are worth 620K per scan
Terra-formable High Metal Content planets are worth 401K.
Ammonia Worlds are worth 320K
Water Worlds are worth 301K

so all you need is an easy way to plot routes between the systems and a way to boost the profit...

this has been discussed in Beckys excellent Zero to Hero thread, which is well worth a read...

Step One:
so to start.. download EDPathfinder and install it on your pc.

wf9TYL.jpg

set the filter for WW (TF) and ELW. you can set a minimum system value if required but is not needed. the beauty of the program is that it will only plot routes that contain what you have specified. it will also let you know if there are other terraformable bodies to scan in the system.

Step Two:

Follow the set route provide by EDPathfinder and scan whatever takes your fancy.
You can use any ship you like just make sure you have an Advanced Discovery scanner, Detailed Surface Scanner and fuel scoop installed.
(i used a Dolphin and a DBX for this stage)
at some point when you’ve had enough of scanning move to the next step.
(you might want to keep a spreadsheet of how many planetary bodies you scanned for an idea of the total profit you’re going to get back at the end)

Step Three:

this is where you need a big cargo ship and a spare 100m in funds..

From Goldstein Port in Lembava ship fortifications to Fisher Port in Kalak
this will require at least 14 trips (depending on amount of cargo space available)
i did this in a 728t cutter

drop off your fortifications and then fill up for the return trip with Gold or Beryllium (whatever gives you the best return profit)

this will take you about 4.5 - 5 hours to compete (each round trip takes 20 mins)

once you have reached the 10,000 merit stage, go back to scanning high value systems.

Step Four:

once Thursdays power play rankings tick over you will be at level 5 and you can start selling your Exploration data (this must be at a Li Long-Rui controlled station for the bonus to apply)

I sold mine at Goldstein Port..

you can continue scanning systems and cashing in the whole week the rank 5 is active, so the only limit to the amount of money you make is the number of hours you assign to this journey..

one thing to now bear in mind is that the values of each system you scan are now as follows:
Terra-formable Water World’s are worth 2M + per scan
Earth Like World are worth 1.8M per scan
Terra-formable High Metal Content planets are worth 1.2M.
Ammonia Worlds are worth 980K
Water Worlds are worth 903K

Step Five:

if you wanted to, you could spend a couple of hours keeping your level five access
(by spending an additional 50m before the Thursday reset) transporting fortifications, thus allowing you to still get the 200% bonus

or once you’ve had enough get your 50M cr Lvl 5 paycheck (so the initial 100M has only cost you 50M)

Step 6:

sit back and relax about not having to worry about money for a while..

here’s my test data

end of experiment

data:

systems visited: 506
Profit: 1,024,075,517

TDLR:
scan systems using EDpathfinder to plot route
get to level 5 with LYR
sell exploration data with 200% bonus
make loads of money..

Wait, that's base values now?

Just for the record the phrase is "For all intents and purposes". Now we can say we both learned something except TLDR.

I was planning to do this when I came back from my 1 month Exploration trip, but then I chickened out, because I didn't want to risk my data the slightest. I had so many first discoveries. And I hit elite anyway so...

However, I would be interested to know how many gameplay hours you spent for that Billion. You know, to calculate the credits per hour Ratio. Since this is a Money making sheme, that's how they are evaluated...

Approx 44 hrs played 22.2mcr pH

Obviously not as good as certain exploits, , but seriously easy money
you could probably make that level of money farming a CZ, but my combat skills frankly suck and i got to multitask on other things while doing this.

I wouldn't worry about having that much data onboard, only in a couple of systems did I see any other npc's

Thanks OP.

These methods also provide, incidentally, the most amazing and near-instantaneous way to get faction rep for minor factions that act as a gateway to RNGineers.

Now, can any explorer please tell me: I have been thinking of going on a meandering, non-farming, 100% legit, exploration trip. A sort of 'must scan every planet' proper attitude kinda thing.

My current explo rank is something trivial. With these new payouts, how long would it take me to get Elite on my return, assuming as I say a total absence of min/maxing?

You're looking at 300 -350m in exploration data to hit elite now.. so hardly any time at all..
Probably about 300 systems..

In all honesty there's nothing better than actually going to see some of the sites to get you to elite.

Thanks for sharing this! Very tempted to try it :)

everything owesome but I can do that.... Is the Elite I dont have becouse I will kill myself if I try I know.

But of all methods I've seen this is the best approach so far congrats [alien]

I have repped you, and might try this soon.
Just so you know, doing the ancient guardians mission, once the bug in it is fixed in 2.3.10, will net you about 35-40M Cr per hour(around 22m Cr/hour currently)

marx calculates with an average 4 times increase of payouts: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/331804-The-Elite-Explorers-Hall-of-Fame-continued

this meets my experience. if i'm mainly in travel mode, i make around 40K per jump (this is 3,5 times what it was previously), if i'm in scan mode/mood, i make much, much more.

there is surely no need to go to the neutron fields anymore.

neutrons are now only 50K, so no longer viable, unless you have to go through the field heading somewhere.

@geomon, Are we still in the days where we have to enable verbose logging ? If yes, where is it these days as I can't find it ?
(since pathfinder can avoid systems you've already scanned)

you can export from edsm.net your logs... there is a guide somewhere how to get that into the game file for visted sysems.

Taking your route solely through F,G,A stars plus the interesting ones, and scanning only the shinies makes me about 5 million per page sold. Which has 50 entries, so that's an average of 100.000 per hop.

By the way @TrueSilver, any sort of exploration is proper exploration. Scan entire systems, picking out the shinies, going on a neutron farming trip, all proper.

The danger with setting your aim as scanning entire systems is when you run into large uninteresting systems it becomes a chore quite fast. Maybe a better approach is to set goals which you can meet every system you jump in. Most obvious ones are: find ELWs, WW or AWs. Others are: find the smallest/biggest planets, find the highest G landable planets, look for weird system configurations. That way every next jump might be jackpot. Every honk result is important, almost every visit to the system map might yield a hit.

Grinding scans or jumps might make you burn out on exploration really fast.

Also set intermediate waypoints. Don't go 20.000 ly all at once, but divide it into chunks of maximum 5000 lys.

need to bookmark this for quoting if ziggy isn't around :)

what i did on my elite run (pre payout buffs) were such projects. for exampel: finding every kind of star-type in the game in the core (stuff like MS-stars and so on). finding every kind of planet. etc. pp.

i combined that with travelling between real galaxy supergiants on the way there and back, for the "smaller targets" part.

Thank you to mikekim, goemon and Ziggy for these very helpful responses to my question.

This boost in exploration data payouts seems like a great move by Frontier - effectively offering a bit of catch-up with credit inflation across the rest of the game while also making non-min/maxed exploration a viable way of reaching Elite rank in something less than years.

Each to their own, but I never really understood the point of the neutron farming thing. I mean, min/maxed grinding is usually done as the swiftest way of reaching something else of benefit to the player - but what's the benefit in a rank that no longer even gates anything?

In light of recent RNGineering events I'm considering my future in ED but I'll take a look at the exploration forums and see what the wonderland of non-pew-pew has to offer ... o7
