Bio Signals, a lottery?

Landed on several planets that are suppose to have Bark mound and there not were to be found despite hours of looking

I sympathise, bark mounds are indeed hard to find, they are probably the most difficult of the old style of bio. I found Brain Trees, Anemones and Crystal Spikes all quite easily the moment I landed, but Bark Mounds have eluded me so far.

Ok that was interesting, so I decided to look again for bark mounds, this time I almost landed on two of them, they are widely spread out here, so scattered you have to use the SRV radar to find them, going to look around a bit more see if they get thicker elsewhere.

For the benefit of my fellow players I have been scienceing and have found two very interesting things, which may or may not make people happier. First I found a couple of much larger patches of bark cones;

You can see one patch in the direction the ship is pointed and a larger patch in the top right corner. That one has more cones so I went to that one to do some science. First thing is, and I suspected this before from previous tests, contrary to the old system where it took around two weeks for mats to regenerate, a simple log will regenerate all mats on the cones, so that will make some people happier. The other curious thing is, the mats seem not to change, so each cone will yield the same type of mat. I have harvested them twice, now I will leave it a while and go back in the morning and check again to see if they still drop the same mats. That may or may not make people happy. This little field for instance yielded Carbon, Sulpher, Phosphorous and Germanium, so a number of relogs will quickly fill those mats if player wants to do that.
