Biological sites, Thargoids and other undiscovered things.

Hello,
I have been searching all over the internet fir answers on a question I have and can't seem to find anything conclusive. I played elite early on and there have been a lot of changes while I was away.. I wish I never left..

Anyway, I wanted to go exploring and have noticed when using the FSS that Thargoid locations are clearly displayed on the locations section under the planets info.

I gotta say this has left me a little confused, are they listed clearly like that because they are so well known now? I'm curious.. if I happened to stumble upon an undiscovered planet would these locations be displayed clear as day or would it be hidden until I investigate biological sites?

I find it a little strange that geological/biological sites have to be seen before we know what is actually there but the barnicals are displayed as a locations.

Im curious to know more about how this actually works so I better know how to explore. At this point im not sure if alien sites are all listed under planet location info, or if I need to check out biological sites incase I find more then a space plant..

Also, curious if someone could tell me how long it has been this way.. how did people find the thargoid sites before the codex, before the FSS showed us locations before going to the planet.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Ram Tah worked out how to detect Guardian sites based on data returned during a CG, all ships are now equipped with this technology.

The way it works is that Guardian, Thargoid and Human locations are reported (near) instantaneously, while Biological and Geological sites need to be generated and take some time. They have been this way all the time, the only thing that changed is that at first, all of them were reported at once, and now, you don't have to wait for Bio/Geo generation to finish to see if there's other stuff on there.
Oh, and it doesn't matter if they were already discovered or not.

Biological (and Geological) POIs only contain one type, and nothing else. You won't find any xeno or human stuff mixed in with them. So, if you're looking for such content, there's no need to check regular bio/geo signals. (And with Odyssey coming soon, those will be a thing of the past anyway.)

As for how Thargoid sites were found: for starters, they are visible from quite the distance. More importantly however, there is a way to get information from Thargoid Links on the locations of three other Thargoid sites, the system and body they are on. See the wiki for more information on this. This avenue has been entirely exhausted though, and all possible sites have been found.

If you're looking for Guardian stuff instead, the Guardian area centered around Hen 2-333 (outside the permit lock, out to 750 ly) is likely to contain undiscovered ruins.
