Bitten by an ASP.

I think they had 4 beams in the video, but that is a pretty bad solution for a 4A power distributor. So I did the math and slotted the best DPS/DPE config available for the slot and the power distribution: 2 med pulse, 2 small pulse. Gimbals not turrets. Turrets do great DPE, and are a good way to go if you have massive shields and bad agility (like an Anaconda?). But the Asp is fairly agile and somewhat fragile so turrets are an unnecessary gambit imo. On my Asp, I put the small pulse in the widest slots because those are the ones that have the best firing arc. The firing pattern also looks prettier imo. You can check the math for ideal DPS/DPE here:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=140240

total wattage of 2 med pulse + 2 small pulse lasers: 6.16 MW

4A power regen: 3.5 MW

Capacitor Bank: 32 MJ

Time to drain: 32 / (6.16-3.5) = 12 seconds

Damage = DPS x time = 37.84 MW x 12 seconds = 454.08 MJ per capacitor (@ 4 pips)

If you add in the Dumbfire Missile damage vs large targets, the DPS goes up by about ~50%

If you can beat that DPS and total damage per capacitor drainage with another build, please let me know.

WOWOWOWOW ZILJAN!!! I have never bothered to try the med pulse lasers!!! OMG!! IT CUTS THRU SIDEYS AND EAGLES LIKE HOT KNIFE THRU BUTTER!!! I was sooo stupid with the MC!!! I assumed no laser could come close to kinectics for hull..boy, was I wrong!!! Thank you for that!! I tried it and now I feel the dark side of the Force calling... is like a whisper... is like the evil Orinoco...all what I hear is "go kill, go find 'em, go kill..we need blood!!"...crazy stuff right there!

(And the 6A scoop is pretty impressive too.)
Must be, but also too expensive compared to 6B and only 4 secs difference. 21 MM difference in budget....hmm... too much. But you are on the money with everything else!

Rule #17: Don't cheap out on your ride. :)

Rule #17: Don't cheap out on your ride. :)

Rule #1: Don't waste 20 mil on something that doesn't provide an actual benefit. A 6B fills me up before a star scan is complete, and I tend to always at least scan the stars. With that playstyle a 6A is a waste of credits, and you can almost buy a clipper for the price difference.

Pffft, what else am I going to do with credits while I'm out in the black?, it's only money after all.

If I could make another equally game changing recommendation for Asps:

If you're in the bubble and expecting combat, always slot Mirrored Bulkheads. This gives 3 advantages:

1) obviously defense. Your hull will effectively quadruple in value vs lasers (eg better than a stock Anaconda!). So you will become nigh unkillable so you can feel free to slot a 6A scoop etc without worrying about rebuy. And assassination missions become pretty much a guaranteed payday.

2) you will become a ramming machine, coming out ahead in most any contact sport encounters.

3) interdictions will become a cake walk. Yes, extra bulkhead mass makes it easier to escape or to pull people over. Haven't noticed the same benefit from other weight sources. It's even more noticeable on a Cobra btw.

@Kancro. It is pretty inspiring isn't it? Just think about a wing of 3 Asps with this build dropping an A rated Anaconda's shields with Max Shield Boosters in less than 12 seconds... They would be too surprised to remember to use SCBs! No one is safe from our wrath ;)

I'm gonna try these out. Just replaced my military grade ones with these. Thanks.

Havent tried military, but in theory they should give the same benefit for interdictions, a better benefit for ramming and kinetics, and half the benefit vs lasers.

I've used military on Cobras and they work very well. I am sure that they will be equally good unt das uber Asp.

From my research before I even bought Elite, I looked forward to buying the Asp. It was clearly the most well-rounded of the ships I could imagine buying.

One day, after much grind, I finally traded in and settled into the sweet, sweet cockpit of my shiny, new asp.

Excited with anticipation, I fired her up, and launched from the station. Wait, something's wrong.

What's that sound. Are you ' kidding me?

FD. .

I tried to love the Asp, but it was sold almost right away.

I'd rather fly a hauler, and keep my dignity.

lol, yeah I had the EXACT same reaction. It does sound quite literally like a flatulent hippo. Luckily the engine sounds much better in supercruise which is where you spend most your time. Also, the worst part of the noise comes from handling her too roughly. If you can fly her with a little more grace then the straining sound engine whining won't be as noticeable.

Some me people like the sound because it reminds them of a WWII bomber. That is a minus column item in my book though, since I don't have romantic feelings about WWII or carpet bombing cities.

Pffftshsglll........Words have literally failed me. You point out the beauty in the Asp's versatility yet you are put off by engine sounds. My eyes are bleeding, help me. You then mention Ha#%•r and Asp not only in the same sentence but in the same paragraph.
Sweet Mary mother of the baby Jesus.
Wash your mouth and repent. There may be room for forgiveness yet.

Well, having a soft spot for old prop planes and liking war, carpet bombing cities and all the other terrible stuff that goes with it are far removed. War's a terrible thing. Doesn't make a P-47D with a checker field in front and stripes on the wings any less pretty :)

When I corner really hard in my Asp, this is what I hear... and it's hard not to laugh:

Start the 1st video and then start the second video after 15 seconds to get the full effect. :)

[WARNING, ONCE YOU HEAR IT YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO UNHEAR IT]

Well it's 3301 and the Luftwaffe bombed my local chippy. I am sure we have all moved on.
However if you want an intelligent and an analytical read on the allied bombing campaign of the third Reich (taken from something I had to read when I was younger) then I recommend 'Among the dead cities'.(A. C Grayling) You see both sides of that controversial coin.
Back on topic though. That cockpit is bloody amazingly good.

Well, you did warn me :)

Heck, I always took the Asp engine sound as an easter-eggy joke to begin with. It makes me laugh, but apparently that's good for you :)

Voorheez, yes it really is. Love the visibility and the utilitarian work bench style command console. Also kind of like being able to see the landing pad below me when docking. Got to love TrackIR :)

NVM immersion. Just plain immersion.

Long rant removed.

Each to their own CMDR. Enjoy your hauler 😀
Jokes aside. I personally don't mind the flatulent engines I spend most time in SC anyways and the farting sound doesn't affect that.

Yeah, if I had considered that SC would be sound immune, I might be exploring in an Asp yet, my Annie turns sooooo slowly.
