They're Void Black, the BF paints are Midnight Black.
Yep, and Void Black is actually Obsidian Black, which is actually Purple. Definitely not black paints.
So no midnight black for the new ships? Would have liked to complete my collection.
I can't help it but this pic reminded me immediately of some scene from Star Trek...
But I absolutely do like that yellowish-green paintjob...
P.S.: and the AWACS like dish on top... Sad that the Python Mk II isn't that good as an explorer...

Yeah, makes me wonder if any of the other ships will get this kit design, maybe the Cobra M5 when it's released?

Yeah, makes me wonder if any of the other ships will get this kit design, maybe the Cobra M5 when it's released?

Along with racing paints its Simpsonmobile kitbashing. The wing nacelles have accents that are clearly Star Trek inspired and take me out of EDs aesthetic.
I think what sets off my inner voices the most is that many kit parts do not respect the design of the ship, blocking vents, radiators etc.

...as Kimosabe_X comments on this, yes the design does have that Star trek theme to it, but whether the designers should be fired for it, I personally don't wish for that to happen!
....maybe the kit design might even prove popular with some folks.
I think you are inferring that there's a certain amount of plagiarism here?...that could be said for any number of ships created for space games in general terms. Perhaps this design was intended to impress Star Trek fans
...the other threequarters aprox of the ship is arguably of Frontier origin.
I'd personally like that dome taken off, expanded in radius and depth, add a few embellishments, fit some landing gear, create a new type of 'special' drive, add some 'windows' for the pilots cockpit, and lights around the circumference that you could set for different colours and pulsing effects (and it's gotta spin with a slight humming noise). So would this ship be classed as plagiarism?....several ways of looking at that.
Would I like that ship I describe, Yes!* ...always wanted to fly a 'UFO' in Elite...but there again, it would not be unidentified, so the UFO moniker would have to be changed to some other name, and it could be classed as plagiarism of any number of reported sightings of this type of craft in the 'real' world. There's only so many designs of 'spaceship' where they can start to look similar in one way or another. Skimmers follow a broad take on this too.
*Now if the 'dome structure' was actually another smaller ship controlled like a drone by the player....that might prove more interesting.

Along with the removal of the majority of cheaper paintjobs. We're getting the odd Tactical and Vibrant paintjob come through (at very expensive prices), but we're still missing a whole load of what used to be available. If you want a uniform fleet, you're completely incapable of doing it now in anything other than black.
I took his comment to mean it doesn't makes sense and looks dumb. Equivalent effort could have gone into something that made sense and looks cool. But I'm sure some people will purchase the kit. There is always a buyer.Well...

It’s not my thing, but neither are the little wings in the middle of the main wings on the Mandalay kit, but looking at the screen shots they’re popular.
And let’s not start on the hideous paints available! The advantage of most people playing in Solo or PG is we don’t have to see their poor taste.
At least the store team were also allowed to adjust PP merits. It's a deal I can live with.
