BLADE RUNNER LICENCE needed by this commander.

Its pretty simple really I, just like many commanders have a group of systems that I think of as my HOME ZONE, in this home zone I have stored my carefully assembled fleet of customised ships. It therefore follows that I will do whatever is needed to ensure safe access and system stability in my home systems.
The present options for protecting what is yours are somewhat limited, I would love to be able to engage in policing activity to "clean House" as it were and help law enforcement Keep my system safe and secure for those hard working commanders in need of a safe refuge.

If you align with a power, then you can freely attack any enemy of that power within their controlled space. Even if they are clean.

Also, any wanted criminals are fair game.

What more would you like :)? Police missions? A full career would be very restrictive, since they wouldn't like you wandering off whenever you felt like it :p!

Power play is a highly restrictive broken mechanic that prevents free trade... I thought my post was pretty clear actually. I want to be able to defend my system from criminal interference without being made a criminal by suicidal AI.

Not a bad idea.
Perhaps the background sim can track the number of criminals that are eliminated in a system and base a security value on it?
It could be balanced by the amount of piracy performed in the system as well as the amount of smuggling.

Agreed that Powerplay is too restrictive. I tried it in Beta and never joined in release. I am fundamentally opposed to 'picking a side' and painting a target on myself for everywhere to travel to. If they included a mechanic for Privateering I would participate, just to enjoy another aspect of the gameplay.

Your idea could work into some of the other ideas out there about Security Zones, and would make it more of a dynamic system.

For instance, it could work the other way too. In the game I fancy myself as a smuggler, and maybe by smuggling in my home system I am making it less secure and more profitable for illegal activity... ?

What are you currently unable to do that is not this already? You are free to engage a "criminal", as long as they are wanted. Any suicidal AI is not going to act any differently.

Its a by product of idealism don't you think?

In real life, our governments/dictators are empowered with looking after our best interests as a "people" under the same flag.
In reality, they con us into believing they are doing their best for us whilst stealing from under our noses, the rich getting richer whilst the poor...., well, enough said.

I can't say with any conviction I am either proud of my country or even of the human race as a whole for that matter.
Its all about the money not the good of mankind unfortunately.

Home system? meh, "ready my ship, its time to move on" :)
