Blocking players in Open play sucks...

For a couple of weeks now I've been warning any players who come to my home systems (two of them) to leave or be attacked. This is my turf and you're not welcome here! This has lead to all sorts of fun and shenanigans with other CMDR's. it certainly adds spice to the game.

what if that person in 'your' star system plays mainly in solo and dips in and out of open?

I have my own star system since gamma and play in solo whilst using a Type 6 but play in open when using my Cobra.

What then?

I'm not making excuses for anyone but I work on the internet all day and the last week has been crappy. Constant dropped connections to major services, email hiccups, slow backbone connections, high latency. I know it hasn't been my own broadband connection playing up, the backbone is under some kind of stress this week if you ask me. So just remember Frontier aren't responsible for the entire internet.

This is how ignore should work except that your friend shouldn't see both of you. What system you are camping anyways? I'll probably come there to troll you.

No - it blocks the player blocked player communicating with you.

Here is the post from Sandro on 13/12/2014:

Hello Commanders!

In this instance, blocking the Commander might prove quite useful.

When you block somebody, a couple of things should happen.

Firstly, you will receive no communications from them.

Secondly, during any transition where matchmaking is at work (so basically, hyperspace jumps, entering and exiting super cruise) you are much less likely to be matched with the blocked Commander.

Blocking becomes weaker when it comes up against friends (and next year, player wings), because if a blocked Commander is in the same session as a friend (say, because they haven't blocked the Commander, the blocking effect is overruled by the friendship matchmaking.

Outside of this case though, blocking should work fine.

According to the DDA on this (and who knows if that's still relevant), carrying a bounty overrides Ignore list and Friend list priority for matchmaking, so it can't be used to evade a bounty hunter. Here's the quote from the Groups DDA:

"If a person earns a bounty their ignore list and friend preferences won’t affect matchmaking, and bounty hunters will still be able to encounter the player, even if the bounty hunter is on the player’s ignore list"

I seems Michael Brookes' statement here conflicts with how Sandro described it, or it just wasn't clear enough. Maybe one of the two can come back and clear this up?

Last night I was playing with my friend and I issued my usual warning to a cheeky Type 6 that was in my system. He jumped away and I thought that was that. To my surprise when my friend and I jumped to our other system the cheeky Type 6 was there but I couldn't see him, only my friend could.

Is that how blocking players works? Does it remove them visually from your game so they can carry on and ignore my "keep out" system warnings? If so that totally sucks and should be removed from Open play... what a game breaker.

They might simply not be inteerested in playing your fantasy out and would prefer to play there's, one in which you dont exist

Nah. He's saying that it blocks the player-blocked player blocking player blocking blocked players blocking players blocking blocked players communicating with blocked players blocking player-blocked players player-blocking blocked players.

Ah, finally it's all clear!
