Blown off canopies

Now I can survive a 2/2 Python wing in my Vulture, UNLESS they blow off my canopy.
And this happens very often.
FAR TOO often.

Request: please add a Military type canopy that is FAR more resistant than the fish tank I have now...

Thank you.

And, to be fair, my Python seems to lose its canopy quite often too. :D [No objection to 'armour-plated glass + polycarbonate + transparent aluminium' cockpits being a purchasable 'thing' though. :) ]

My vulture was always losing its canopy once it's shields drop. DBS has the same issue.
However, it never stopped me from fighting. Unless my hull was below 50% then I'd think about getting out.
But then I always fitted A rated life support so i had 25 minutes to sort myself out.
Never seem to have that trouble in my FDL now though.

The Vulture really needs it's shields. Go head to head without them and your canopy crumbles, try to run away without them and your powerplant gets mauled. Best bet is to try to keep your shields up :)

Have you seen the vulture?

Its a cockpit strapped to two large engines and two large guns, the cockpit's about half the volume of the ship model.

Even then, it's too vulnerable.
In the days of ED (3302) they probably have things like diamond glass, to name just one thing.
The canopy tech has advanced since this day, I'd think.

I never understand why we need canopy at all, personally i prefer external cameras and a very good armored cockpit.

Because it's very important to see things with your own eyes. That's why the tank on the right would be everyone's favorite choice for combat, right? :)

Well in ED there's no such thing as dying due to a weapon hitting the pilot so unless were advocating introducing that it's not a great comparison.

I mean external cameras fail too when hit with weapons, so either the camera fails or the canopy does, your choice.

I always carry cellophane and duct tape in my cockpit for such emergencies.

I always did wonder, however, after your canopy breaks, how the next laser shot to the canopy does not instantly delete your save.

Well they do. However lasers cut diamonds let alone of this size.

Even a sheet of diamond stretched out that thin would crack and break under heavy caliber ammunition

A rated life support (I know I know it's a Vulture so probably never gonna happen) would solve your canopy issues

25 minutes is a long time

Who said a thin sheet of diamond?
A 20CM layer of it.

Asides the point: the pilot can't die, as someone mentioned afore, then why not simply reduce the canopy damage, or give us un option to buy an (expensive) military version?

Every 20 minutes I have to leave my spots, because my canopy got turned into a sieve...
Every time by a Conda or Python weaponized with Flak Cannons or similar...

I find these tales so amusing.

In a year of playing I have lost one canopy, on an Asp that was also down to 1%nhull

This game has it out for you mate, run while you still can.

A vulture has almost the same shield value as a Python, but isnt slow and lumbering like a Python, but rather has a great top speed and is as agile as an eagle. Which gives you the ability for hit and run tactics and preventing your shield going down in the first place. Because thats not enough, when the Vultures shields go down it should also be able to tank like a Python? Nah I dont think so. The Vulture needs to have weaknesses to balance its strengths. And as other have pointed out, look at the size of the Vultures cockpit. It should be vulnerable in that department and it is. FD commended +1
