Bobble heads!!!!

Once actual reputations start in game it'll matter.....you paint your ship to make it different from the generic ships.

We don't have any other kinds of avatars in game (in space this is all you will have)...

I hope eventually you will be able to customize the paint schemes...maybe decals or something.

You will be able to see it. External camera/drones are on the way.

Edited to add:

Here we go, found the post: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthr...=Developer's last page

We are looking at external camera views, with the following caveats:

* They are contextualised as camera/drone systems
* They are not designed to be used as alternate flight views
* Their primary function is to allow "beauty shots"
* They may have occasional tertiary game play functions (such as seeing how close you are to something)

No ETA at the moment though.

Hope this helps.

Why do girls get tramp stamps?...
snicker......well....you know....;)
Why do people have bumper stickers?...
so others will have to know that their kid is an honor student at some school they've never heard of. Or to know that they support "blah"....that way you know how close to park to them....
Why do people have weird patterns shaved into the back of their heads?
...
I'm guessing lost a bet or drank too much in Las Vegas....

No doubt all that stuff will be coming in future revisions. Also, there will be external views available to us via some kind of drone setup or something along those lines. Nothing has been confirmed about that yet.

^^ What he said. I hope external views are coming soon because otherwise why shell out cash for a paintjob you can't see?

Question

Why buy a paint job for a ship you cant even see? To me this is worthless.

......................................................................................................

I would rather see addons like Different color scheme HUDS, Different Bobble head dolls, or anything that can make what i see feel more custom to my liking. These are the things I would buy in the store.

Thoughts?

i want to buy a tv for the inside of my ship that i can stream netflix well i play ahaha. seriously though i want that

Why bother having your hair styled a certain way? Because other people see it...

The flying circuses of WWI all had flashy paintjobs, so other pilots could id them, and fly off in fear...

What you want is a nice matt black ship, with frosted windows, so you get near free stealth mode when in silent running mode.

I'm just not a fan of them being sold in real-world money. I love that kind of customization stuff like skins and knicknacks on the console, but what do you do if you buy, say, a Viper paint job and a couple weeks later switch to an Anaconda and never go back again? I'm hoping the skin-sales change come full release--even if they keep selling them for cash money, which I understand, I'd also like to see them open them up for purely in-game money as well, even if they jack up the prices of them.

Well, you will be able to own multiple ships. Also, if you only have an Anaconda, a few poor decisions might leave you back in a Viper whether you wanted to be in one or not :D

Did I say 'and never go back again' somewhere? I forget. Yes, some weird twist of fate might see me back behind the wheel of my first car, but what does that have to do with the price of unicorns in Egypt?

I would just like to point out that you can see the exterior of your ship during outfitting... but an external camera for screenshots would be nice. Hope it's coming soon.

Yeah matt black with frosted windows sounds cool, i would pay for that

Possibly jacked up prices in game but have the possibility just to buy for a couple of pounds or dollars etc, the way they do in BF4 and other games if you don't want to do the grind to get them.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking too. Keep the price as-is in the store and offer maybe most, if not all, of them for much higher in-game if they want to stick with this idea for continued revenue generation.

I don't know. Why buy branded underwear for daily use unless you plan to be a shy flasher?

This cracked me up! Lol, thanks for starting my day with such wonderful humor.
It's along the lines of 'Swiss cheese has holes in them. So if you buy more of the same cheese, you get more holes which means you have less cheese so does that mean the more cheese you buy, the less you actually have?'

You certainly did, and I did read it. The point I was making that whatever you *want*, it won't necessarily be your choice. Since we will also be able to own multiple ships, even if you own an Anaconda, you might well decide you want a Viper too, to take on missions the Conda isn't suitable for, or you don't want to risk it on

[sigh again]

I guess it's my fault for using the Viper/Anaconda as a general analogy when I should have been more specific.

There are many people who will own multiple *class* of ships, including myself, the same way many (American) families own multiple cars, but less often duplicate a specific class of car. For example, my folks have a daily-driver, and a muscle car for fun, and a pick-up for working, and a motorcycle for fair-weather commuting. Some families have two four-door sedans, but rarely have three or four if there are only two drivers. Unless you are outfitting two similar ships with very different hardware to perform specific tasks, it's likely that you'll have an ideal 'ship' for a given set of tasks and stick with that, and have different ships on-hand for different task sets. I, for example, intend to have a ship dedicated to fighting (probably a Viper), one for, believe it or not, passenger transport (probably a Dolphin based on the list, because I think it'd be an interesting sub-business to try out), and then my *main* ship, which will be dedicated to exploration and trading. Here's the rub--if I *think* that my ideal explorer will be, say, an Anaconda, and buy a skin for it, but realize later that the Panther is much better for my purposes, and upgrade to THAT instead, then even if I lose my Panther at some point, I'm not likely to go back to an Anaconda even as a temporary substitute for that classification. I won't ever own, for example, a Sidewinder AND an Eagle AND a Viper all at the same time because they all fit the same mission spec, and it doesn't make sense to shell out the cash for storing three fighter-class ships when, realistically, I'm more likely to favor one over the others. If I lose my Panther, there's a good chance I'll use one of my other ships until I get the cash to replace THE PANTHER, rather than going with a ship that I have already determined is inferior.

Or maybe this is a problem that is entirely in my own skull, being a person who knows *exactly* what they want and doesn't like 'shopping around.' I don't have an inherent problem investing in a skin for each CLASS of ship in my hanger, but what I would hate to do is buy a skin for my explorer and then realize later that there's a better ship out there to fill that task, or, God-forbid, they release better ships for each class in a DLC.

Now, what about the interior knicknacks? I'd love them to be transferable, and maybe even placable. I don't want a bunch of interior swag to be locked to specific ships. There's no way around this for skins, obviously, but the swag on the console or maybe decorations for the crew spaces, I'd like those to be universal. Don't know how realistic that desire will end up being, but hey, it's not *impossible.*
