Borderlands3 or Outer Worlds?

One of my computer parts came with a redemption code for my choice of either game above.
I know nothing of either, and I know you guys/gals go through games like I go through socks.
General consensus of which would be better?
TIA.

Borderlands 3 are... well... another Borderlands. Good game, more of the same. More guns, more shooting, more annoying characters. Decent game overall, I'd say. I haven't played all that far, though. Just downloaded it, played a couple hours, deemed it worthy and I'm gonna buy it and play it once it releases on one of the stores I use.

Outer Worlds is brilliant, though. Played through it twice, already. Really a true and amazing return to the roots of FPRPGs.

If you want to play both, I'd say redeem Borderlands 3 and buy Outer Worlds, because they deserve the money more. If you want to play only one, get the Outer Worlds.

IMHO, anyway...

Depends heavily if you prefer single player narrative experience (Outer worlds) or more action packed coop (Borderlands). In BL I`m pretty sure one can find something for her/himself, but with OW its "love" or "meh" as if you wont like the narrative part the rest - gunplay - is very Fallout like clunky.

Borderlands 3 focuses more on the shooting anything that moves with outrageous guns etc, a very fun game. The Outer Worlds focus a bit more on the storytelling and has a bioshock/firefly/fallout feel. Also a great game.
If you had to get just one, ask yourself if you want more story with your shooting, I would say Outer Worlds but it is (imo) a bit short although replay ability is pretty high.
If you want unending mayhem and lots of guns go with Borderlands 3 (although it is a lot like the other Borderlands games)

So you change your socks once a month? Wow....dude ^^

I own Borderlands 3 since its release. Am watching outer worlds as a possible purchase of interest.

If you have Borderlands 2 then 3 is an improvement, but not by much (at least at the moment). The game had serious performance and optimization issues at launch (and its still far from good even now) in addition the developer has obviously rushed out the product with the idea to perform beta and quality testing after release.

Lets just say Borderlands 3 can be a very frustrating experience right now.

Its rather short, the story is cringe, some of the NPCs are disliked to the level of "hate" because of their representation and truth be told.....after the announcements and statements gearbox made prior to release the current game feels like half a game. It has potential but its not there yet. Its also a very different game to Outer Worlds. Or lets just say the focus of each game is drastically different. Both share the same elements, just not to the same degree.

Outer Worlds is a single player game by nature with an extensive single player campaign packed into a sandbox world. From what I ve seen the focus is the world and the AI infrastructure. Combat looks kinda subpar (good enough tho) but it appears to be the "better" RPG.

It really comes down to what you enjoy and expect from a game. BL3 is a fast-paced reaction-dependant game. Its mechanics are more like Diablo in a FPS setting and if you liked BL2 and want something like it then OW will not be a good replacement. If you enjoy character development and story telling then BL3 is a mini novel good for a few chuckles but hardly what I would consider a "good" purchase. OW seems to be far slower in game pace but offer more complexity in how you affect your character and the world around you. Borderlands offers a linear story that cant really get any more straight in its one-dimensionality and the "deepest" decision you will ever make is to settle on a gun to murder enemies with.....

I know nothing of either, and I know you guys/gals go through games like I go through socks.

It took me 6 years to complete Skyrim's main quest. I've been playing The Witcher 3 since early 2016, currently at the initial phases of Blood And Wine DLC.
You don't want to be around when I change socks. :ROFLMAO:

Sorry, can't give any meaningful contribution to the topic at hand, been playing The Outer Worlds (planning to finish it before the Thermal Death of the Universe) and finding it very pleasant, but I've never played a Borderlands, so bias and all that.

About the same speed of game completion as me.
I left TW3 when I arrived at the 1st village, haven't fired it up since.

I've got about 25 hours in Outerworlds right now.

It is a mashup between Fallout New Vegas and Borderlands.

Game play is first person shooter with up to two companions. The world is well conceived and fleshed out in a manner consistent with FNV. Tremendous detail within the world. Dialogue and actions have a significant affect on the gameplay. Combat difficulty is quite soft on normal, but still engaging. Replayability is definitely possible.

The game is constructed using the unreal engine. The color pallette is more saturated than FNV with nice alien landscape models. There is definite model recycling on multiple world settings, and enemy diveristy is limited.

Weapon diversity is substantial, but not anywhere close to borderlands. There are weapon customization and upgrade mechanics. Access to higher tier weapons is fairly bound to level, and it is not possible to obtain an over level weapon.

I recommend Outerworlds as a fully functioning interesting game.

That's the thing, I don't know the series, nor Diablo.
Leaning towards Outer Worlds
Gotta build the comp first, I suppose.
Then I m sorry, if you want any meaningful advice from us you are going to share a little more about you.

What kind of games did you enjoy in the past?
What do YOU think each game is specifically?
What do you "expect" from your choice in regards to qualties?

Stuff like that.

As far as the computer goes, people get intimidated by "this is my gaming PC set-up" claims and videos showing set-ups worth thousands and I m sorry to say but if you expect to play current-gen games on a satisfying level you should expect to invest 1200-1500 bucks depending on how "handy" you are. When I took an assignment in the US I build myself a new gaming computer and I managed with 1000 dollars allowing me to play current gen games at ultra easily. The only thing that pushed me over the 1000 dollar mark was the monitor and of course---its going to be self-assebled.

But this has several advantages and seriously....its easy these days.

Biggest advantage...you get a "clean" system that you can ruin and pollute yourself. The very first time you ll boot up your system will blow your mind :)

Sorr, going off-topic. I ll sjut up now :)

The game styles I like vary, it's just that I don't collect many of them, and I tend to stick with the ones I have for a long time.
I like FPS (still play CS : S, Skyrim)
RTS sci fi games I have quite a few in library
TBS (Civ IV etc)
Don't like: death match/arena/dungeon crawl stuff

I think you misunderstood the build comp statement, I build all my machines, and have all the parts for my next one, was just saying I have to physically put my new one together first.

My fault, I wasn't clear.

I dont have first-hand experience on Outer Worlds but from what you describe Borderlands 3 will definitely only be of limited fun to you. The main focus on BL3 is the grinding and farming for better stuff to beat more powerfull enemies in order to get better even better stuff :)

Having just got The Outer Worlds, I got to say, I can't believe I missed out on this game for so long. Curse you reviews that sway my decision making!!!!

I didn't buy it on release because of reports of it only taking 20mins to beat in a speed run but I have about 10 hours in and I really like it so far. If I had to describe it I'd say it's like a mash up of Skyrim and Mass Effect.

My necro for the month...

I'm going to have to start over now when I'm done. After I entered one of the towns I was caught stealing and my npc crew opened fire killing like 4 of them before I could stop them. Now the town hates me. I sneak back in, to the guy I got to see for my mission. I guess I'm still hostile there and he opens fire and my npc crew killed him and two other people important to the towns story missions 🤦‍♂️

Outer worlds. It should have been excellent. But it just wasnt that good.

The writing was fairly passable at best though there were some highlight moments here and there.

The gameplay was ok for what it was, even on the hardest difficulty I never had to use any of the various stims and bits that i found absolutely everywhere in great quantities. Finding new weapons and armour and modifying them was about exciting as custard.

It's hard to pick a hole in specific places with this game, it just seemed to "meh" in so many areas, not awful but not good either.

Never finished it.
