General / Off-Topic Boston Dynamics - Atlas

This is seriously impressive. Must say I am amazed at their rapid development. And a bit scared.. [big grin]
(oh and watch till the end for a recreation of my last time having to many drinks and deciding I could 'get over that table', thank god many years ago :p)

Their robots are getting scarily good. The fluidity of motion is approaching natural-looking, which is pretty scary given how long it takes humans to learn.

Oh my....that is scary. And once these robots are completely autonomous combined with super human level cognitive abilities..... Humans will become even more increasingly paranoid than they are now.

Just imagine talking to an AI robot that.... In the time it takes you to think and ask another question... it will compute every posssible question you could of asked and have formulated an answer. Plus a billion other things like, as a human race we are incapable of governing ourselves, and enabling a 'solution' for our benefit.

In fact, I can't imagine the outcome to be anything other than this.

It's scary. We have under the eyes, the future soldiers for the wars of tomorrow

I reckon stuff like this is pretty amazing but does feel a bit like the boffins haven't watched Battlestar Galactica, The Matrix and/or Terminator.

I asked Google to set a reminder for something the other day using very ambiguous and causal speech and it understood what I meant and set the reminder exactly as desired. Our two countries are working together on an AI Stealth plane (BAE Taranis +Dassult nEUROn = Scary stuff!), weaponised AI  Interesting times ahead.

Anyway, I welcome our new robot overlords....... can't be too careful (I'm signed into google) :D

Because when you're bored of war, you don't simply stop. No, you engineer machines to do war FOR you. :D
Oh, humanity. You're awesome. Never change. And then go extinct, pls.

And the war can revive industrial production by manufacturing this type of machine. An infinite loop

:)

What's the first thing what gets destroyed on a larger / longer war?
Industrial capacity. Don't count on it, unless you are far far far farfarafarrrrrrrr away from the front lines.

And what's the thing which gets an even bigger sucker punch than america's navy at the beginning of WW II?
The budget. :D

We have to be part of the singularity, if we don't want to be passed by and relegated to history.

The people in charge are certainly wary of risks along those lines, but they are much more worried about their enemies surpassing them in these fields.

Progress isn't going to stop for anyone, and forswearing avenues of advancement is not a solution to anything.

So...is this it, gentlemen? Is this the beginning of the end? How long you reckon? 10,20,50 years?...
Jokes aside, it is astonishing. The level of engineering and software development that went into the thing is just unbelievable. I'm glad I live in times where I can see something like this.

I grew up hoping to have flying cars by the year 2000.
Instead, we got a next level tomagotchi.

Flying cars is only a good idea if you don't think about it for more than 6 seconds.
All those horrible irresponsible incompetent drivers we have on the roads...piloting flying vehicles...thousands of them. Let that sink in.

population control obvious, well just to keep you safe ...err right?

still its full of nice spots where you can stop it so not worried that much, but it very interesting indeed.

just keep them autonomous or let people require a pilots license.
