Hardware & Technical Bought a PC

For the first time in about 15 years I've bought a PC.

It's got an i7 dubrey, with a 760 gtx thingummy, an SSD whatchamacallit and some superdooper silent coolers and a whole list of even more bewildering acronyms.

No idea whether it's amazing or not, but it was reassuringly expensive. Should be ready for Alpha.

Cheers,

Drew.

lol i think am on the same level as you when it comes to hardware descriptions!.....if its an expensive computer it should be perfect(my way of thinking to! ;)

Now have you got one of those twiddly stick things or a gamey pads with a ton of buttons to go with it to? :D

Followed the recommendations and bought a Thrustmaster T1600M for right and left handed Jamesons.

Cheers,

Drew.

.... I predict that sometime in early 2014 I will somehow spill tea on my old laptop...

I have 'Laptops for sale' page now saved on favourites to get the idea into the wifes head....

In late 2013 it will be moved to my homepage....

....the 3 stage plan has begun...

That's a good computer, although I would have bought a 770gtx, just to be a little bit more future proof.

As a person who knows quite a bit about this sort of thing, your description of the specs seem pretty decent. An NVidia GTX 760 is one of the top graphics cards out there. This basically means you'll have no problem running E: D on it's highest graphical settings, assuming the rest or your computer can keep up, which I'm assuming it can, with an Intel I7 processor. I can assume you'll probably have anywhere from 8-16GB of RAM too.

You don't need to know what this means. But I can tell you that computer should easily see you through for a fair few years. Fear not, Mr. Wagar!

Wow. I am well jealous :p

I am reassuring myself by saying I will test alpha with what I have and then upgrade to test again :D

Did that come with Windows 8 ?

Well done, it a really good PC perfect for the alpha test ;)
I will change my PC but it will be less powerful ;)

I built my own 6 core AMD 1100T last year with a 2gb graphics card 16gig ram SSD and all the other nice stuff i fancied at the time... sounds great for running the game and im sure it will cope with running alpha at max resolution just fine and dandy

problem is at the moment im pretty much bed ridden due to an accident I had at work and have been for the last 6 months. I can sit on that pc for a max of an hour if i push it and im in a lot of pain. so when im writing news im in bed using a laptop pretty much on my chest/belly area. and its great for surfing the net playing old games on retro lave but its nowhere near good enough to run E:D. with its poxy 256mb graphics card

So im in a bit of a quandary at the moment.... I'm going to have to figure a solution out between now and alpha as to how i'm going to work this...

Good for you Drew. Thats a present day beast and should last you many, many years.

Any PC gamer worth his salt uses steam

You'll definitely be wanting to get that installed. And its coming up to their autumn sale in which you can get some incredible gaming deals.

Your rig should totally smash everything you throw at it. Hope you got a nice monitor too :)

Can you not do some sort of remote control / streaming thing with your desktop? Have it do the hard rendering whilst you control from the laptop. Not sure if the lag would be too much or not... Could do for trade runs at least.

Or set yourself up with a bed opposite the PC monitor and use a wireless XBox controller for playing.

You might want to consider getting a bed table - my brother was in a similar predicament for a long while, and found it invaluable for getting stuff done.

In fact, put your PC monitor on a wall-mounted TV bracket and you might be able to get the whole kaboodle working in bed.
