Newcomer / Intro Branching out into space

Hi Guys

I am new to Elite and these forums, so this is just to say "hello".
I'm a semi retired Optician with almost 2000 hours under my belt flying for 2 virtual airlines within MS Flight Simulator.
I'm finding trading and docking nice and steady but not risked any combat until I'm more familiar with the weapons systems. Hope to get a bit more daring soon.

Hello, and welcome. I know lots of people for whom trading is enough fun that they never tried anything else. Borderline adrenaline for them is starting to trade with rare commodities. :D

But if you get bored, one day, with several dozen millions on your account (being a long time successful trader...) just buy a Vulture (Or Clipper/Dropship if you want something bigger and safer) and go try to shoot something. :)

Exploring can be very rewarding if you are not desperate for the hustle and bustle of combat. You still have to keep your whits about you, but the sights and thrill of discovery are pretty good

I started playing this game with a plan to focus on trading, but when the early ships seemed to have very limited cargo space I went for some bounty hunting first. Surprised that the combat was pretty easy to pick up and gimballed weapons helped to get used to fighting. Fighting NPCs in Nav beacons and RES is fairly safe as there are usually other guys hunting for the wanted guys. So you are not the only one the bad guys are shooting at :D
