Right now you can adjust whether the handbrake is a toggle or a hold key, but you should have both, a hold key for brake and an additional toggle key for handbrake.

Additionally a third feature could allow you to combine both on a single key; hold and release the key for brake and press the same key for on/off handbrake toggle.

If the srv is stationary when you let go it will stay on already.

I agree it is a bit unintuitive, you have to keep holding the brake button until the vehicle comes to a complete halt.

This is not my experience. With the handbrake set to hold, letting go of the button/key releases the handbrake, and the SRV will absolutely start rolling from a dead stop at zero throttle on some terrain, at some angles, depending on gravity, even if the handbrake could hold it still.

Surely a momentary handbrake is, erm, just a brake?

Haven't tested it but I would have thought the only way a momentary handbrake would be different to regular brakes would be if it does remain on after the key's pressed and then releases as soon as you apply throttle again.
If it didn't work like that, it'd function identically to the regular brakes.
Perhaps drive-assist has some effect on how the handbrake operates?

I do have toe-brakes set as a brake-pedal on my SRV but it's just a switched-input rather than analog so using the brakes is kind of savage.
I've got used to just dabbing the handbrake on/off whenever I need to slow down rapidly.

On a steep slope (or a shallow one on a higher G world) the vehicle will slide, yes. But the brake stays on.

I should have included that I have it set to hold rather than toggle too, thank you for including that extra info.

Handbrake is only on when I hold it, and it never stays engaged unless I'm holding it. It's strong enough to prevent the SRV from moving if I floor the throttle while I hold it, but it's off unless manually held down when set to hold.

Yes Morbad, if you apply the throttle the brakes will be released (unless you manually hold them). We are describing the same thing.

The breaks aren't on unless I manually hold them. You can hear the handbrake disengage the instant I release it.

If the light is off, the handbrake is off.

But the SRV doesn't move ;) I use this feature every time I rejoin my ship, we are describing the same feature Morbad.

We are describing the same thing, but it's not the handbrake, or breaks at all. It's simply that the SRV can come to a complete stop, and stay there, if you zero the throttle.
