Module stays in storage permanently at the megaship (unless an ill fate like Thargoids were to befall it, then you need to transfer it to another station iirc, or maybe it lands at a rescue megaship... currently there's no Thargoids in the Bubble though). The monetary reward is auto-awarded after a certain time if you don't manually claim it. Or so I've heard.
I was at the CG megaship, I had already removed and stored the pre engineered DSS I had been using so today there were two in storage selecting them in turn in outfitting and clicking on but cancelling the sell module showed one was worth zero credits and the other was worth over 200,000 credits, which was what the fitted one had shown before I stored it.
I installed the one valued at zero credits and noticed my rebuy had returned to its previous value clicking on the sell button and again cancelling showed the DSS was now worth over 200,000 credits.
Later when I rejoined my newly arrived FC I transferred the stored DSS for a value I don’t recollect but it wasn’t the nominal 100 credits so I hadn’t mixed the modules up.
Two weeks from the end date the money should transfer into your account, the module is in your module storage on the megaship so you can call it to you at the next outfitting you have access to.
I am a bit disapointed. I had hoped for V2 Scanner with maybe +45% Radius. Who really needs another V1 scanner?
Who really needs a +45% radius surface scanner? Might as well just turn it into a "Instant 100% scan" button.
True, but for a CG it was kind of lame, since materials doesn´t matter anymore
I look at it this way: it's always nice to get an extra, very useful module of any kind for free, even if it's already available for purchase.
This one comes at a very convenient time for me. The release of the Mandalay for in-game credits is near, if not imminent. That's one less must-have module to worry about.

But rather, I am asking... once it DOES become available, how do I go about claiming the new Scanner?

You can go there to equip it, or you can just transfer it to any other station as you would do with any module.
(I assume you have transferred modules from one station to another and know how to do that?)

Apparently I had to log out of the game a few times before it finally showed up.
How and when are we supposed to receive this item, anyone know?

You will be able to transfer it to your current location using the outfitting facility in the station you are currently parked at.
It became available sometime between when the CG ended and the following afternoon (game time) which is when I logged in again and picked mine up.
