Bring back Mike Brooks

A plea to @David Braben - Please bring back Mike Brookes to sort out Elite.

He cared about Elite with a passion, the lore, the gameplay, the community.
Between yourself, Mike and @Arthur Tolmie this fiasco that is unfolding can be saved.

Be brave, admit mistakes and save Elite.
God no. The man responsible for Powerplay, CQC, Multicrew. Why would anyone want him back. ED is in a far better shape since he left.

Who better to improve Elite than the Exec who presided over the three most-notoriously half-baked and long-time-abandoned features in the game? (Multicrew v2 in Odyssey is a welcome improvement tbf)

There's some irony in the request though 😂

I like multicrew to be honest ? I'd love to see it expanded (and the issues fixed, obviously). I'd love to have the same limit on fighters than for PC crew. The ability to have them drop with you in Odyssey. Seeing them on the bridge, act like actual crewmembers.

Could be expanded further, but might be outside of the game scope. Have them customizable (name, holo me, similar to player), giving a small bonus to the player (for example Bob Ross at the helm gives 3% more speed), and the bonus would grow with experience. So you feel as they are a part of the crew.
Something to make them connect with the player, without turning it into The Sims either.

Right now, my big ships feels empty and "wrong". Like the vette or the cutter. I don't even remember the name of my "crew" pilot. They steal much money and XP, so I don't have more than one, and feel punished for using them.

Aaaah, no!
I think people forget how barebone ED original release was. It was Mike Brookes idea to have the season of updates and what they contained, it was him that implemented horizons with planetary surfaces with virtually zero gameplay on them. It was Mike Brookes that implemented powerplay (a great idea but very poorly implemented). It was Mike Brookes that implemented galaxy wide telepresence (multicrew) with out space legs (a silly thing to do). It was Mike Brookes that implemented the original version of engineers. The only truly good thing was holo-me. The rest added to the game and and made the game better overall, but most of the updates were barebones until we got to Beyond.

Since then we have had Beyond, which was far better then the horizons season of updates, and Odyssey, which has some issues, but is shaping up to be good when the fixes get done.

All the updates to date have been full of bugs and that includes the ones that Michael Brooke presided over.

So, yes ED has gotten much better since he left, in my opinion.

Why? The minimum viable product attitude didn't start when he left. It was always there. The problem isn't whoever is acting as exec producer/director, the problem is at the top. The people who decide where resources are allocated, and the people who hire devs to work on Elite (inexperienced graduates, from what i've heard/seen).

MB wasn't above being creative with the truth either. Remember when he told explorers they'd better start packing heat because there's scaaaary stuff out there? I will say he did seem like the person at FD who cared about its lore and story the most. If nothing else his passion for that was plain to see.

Strong words there but I agree with the sentiment that it is a rose-tinted view to think the ED early days were golden. From what I recall he was very good at pushing the lore, and he was very active in forum (whether that's because the Kickstarter he wanted to or not is up for debate).

I thought your armour was white. What happened?
I am quite liking cynical StuartGT :D

Something is going wrong at the higher levels, profits and shareholder value only lasts as long as your customer base buys your product

I'm sorry, but people are gullible and with a short memory. Just make an apology, a few patches, and a lot of marketing. There, no need for reputation.

Remember Blizzard "don't you guys have phone ?", also Honk Kong drama, or recently overpaid CEO ? Apparently I'm the only one, because nobody cares anymore.
